R3 as a continuation and valid Robo movie 2/10

Well, some movies may be discarded as non canon for many reasons but despite how bad it is, I dont think R3 is one of them - its a direct continuation with same actors reprising their roles for Lewis, Johnson , Reed and Wong. There arent many objective arguments for it to be excised from the storyline, if any. One can claim that without Davison, a sort of Godfather of the mythology, it doesnt count, but I dont think its enough

I hear that a lot but as much as I love Basil's score like everyone, I dont think it would fit R2. Basil's score had plenty of heart and emotions, and the first movie was all about that, all about the character's drama. R2 was more so a straight forward, blockbuster action movie, and the music it has fits it very well. Plus Rosenman's score is pretty good, especially during the action sequences. Take Cain's chase for example

-----------------------------------

In this case I really agree with you, but as I have wrote, from R2 was deleted and not used many just the "emotive" scenes what there so miss because entire R2 has really lack of these scenes or moments. Like you wrote, they wanted R2 especially for big and more monumental action but forgot just the magical scenes that did the R1 so great. You know the senes was like a salt for a soup and if R2 had more of these heart moments like R1 has, I really dont think there would work better Rosenmans score. Well, R2 is finished as we know it, the music is not bad but still I think it could be better .

After rewatching R3 today Im definitely changing my rating. It was much worse and more bland than I remembered. Its just really so incredibly far removed from what the first 2 movies are. Ill give it 2 points just for the music, good robo movement and good visual presentation, like cinematography and the overall professional look

Gotta post on this one. Neat thought.

R1 - 11/10 As Demise said, it's off the chart perfect, so there.

R2 - 8.5/10 Certainly not perfect, but certainly more good than bad, despite my own irritations about it. It's still the last true Robo film.

R3 - 3/10 I would actually rate it lower, but there are a couple of good points for me, so again, there.

My rankings really aren't any different from most of the people on here. What else is there to say that hasn't been brought up?

Edit: I rewatched the 2nd and 3rd films recently and I changed my rankings for them. I certainly don't hate the 3rd movie as much as everyone else does, but it isn't very good, that's for sure. It's something I can only watch once every few years.

But I like the second movie a lot actually.

Robo 10/10
Robo2 7/10
Robo3 6/10

Why did I rate 2 better than 3?..Given an extra point for Robocain,See the biggest problem with 3 aside from the obvious hammered on again and again points,Is the total lack of a real nemisis for Murph..There was no real climatic showdown that shouldhave occured in a robo film. But over all its a better looking movie,Better acted movie than 2.

I'm gonna agree with Johan on this one. The acting for the third movie was just so weird, out of place, and randomly over the top. I know it wasn't perfect in two, but there were plenty of well acted scenes in that movie.

Well to play the devil's advocate Jill Hennessy gave a very nice performance I think and the kid wasnt so bad either. Ive seen much worse. Plus, they really DID have a good supporting cast like Daniel von Bargen (Basic Instinct, The Postman) and CC Pounder (Avatar, Face/Off). Im amazed that with such good cast everyone's acting like in Sesame Street episode - over-exaggerated and cartoonish, obviously acting up for kids

To me they all acted rubbish and totally non believable. Big names or not.
It's on par with the kind of acting we see in the series. Hammy and childishly cartoonish. No layers or any kind of notion that they are characters.

Now I haven't seen CC Pounders in much, except Avatar, but she wasn't very good in R3, her death scene is laughable. Hennesey is gorgeous but her acting is poor in Robo3. It's ok at best. Just compare her with the tech girl from Robo2 who conveyed so much more REAL emotion in her short screen time.

I agree the kid was probably the best of the bunch.

Hmmm...I guess i just don't feel Jill is a very good actress, or an actress at all. In the parts I've seen her in she's hardly acting at all. It's just Jill pretending and i never buy it.

It's like Denise Richards in the Bond movie "The world is not enough." She isn't terrible as such but there is absolutely no belief in her character or any belief that she IS a character. It's just Denise pretending.

Which goes for all supporting characters in RoboCop3. Never at any moment do i believe they are real characters. SGT Reed is the only one who have any kind of fire or emotion in his eyes but his parts are all too short.

( I'll probably split this topic up into a new "the acting in RoboCop3 blows" topic. ;) )

I love that CCh Pounder death scene...thats the best comic performance ever caught on film!.....Lmao..But yeah I stretched it a whole bunch with the better acted bit,.I like 3 I can't help it..I remember the teaser posters in the theatre lobby's 2 yr's before it got released,And yes I was horribly dissapointed but to be honest it was the same feeling of dissapointment I experianced in 2 when that gay Robo fanfare cracked off I remember looking at my girlfriend at the time and saying almost at a whimper "They fucked up the Score?!"..To me 3 represents everything that can go wrong with a production had there been more money, more time,And less studio tweaking for that PG-13 rating,It really could have been something special,They had a good Robo they had many elements in place for something super cool but it just did'nt happen..Was it dekkers fault?..Who really knows I mean the monster squad was pretty legit so he can make a film..Anyways I'm stepping down of the Robo 3 podium now..:)

I remember the teaser posters in the theatre lobby's 2 yr's before it got released,And yes I was horribly dissapointed but to be honest

This is a reason why I have a very small soft spot for R3 - tiny bit of Nostalgia. I always had hopes that R3 will get made and waited for it for years and I remember the excitement when I saw that it was made and just released on VHS. What happened after I put the tape in is a different story

it was the same feeling of dissapointment I experianced in 2 when that gay Robo fanfare cracked off

Dont like the fanfare myself, but other than the fanfare I love the entire R2 score. Its very John Williamesque, very classic, like from a movie from 50's, which adds a surreal feel to the whole R2 look, feel and experience. As a matter of fact, theres this angelic choir occasionally appearing in the soundtrack which I think fits that dream-like quality of the movie

I didn't respond to vegas' 'better acted' comment 'cause even though he likes R3 I figured that was a joke. Oh well, you never know I guess. :b

R2, whatever it's faults (and there are many) is still to me the last true RoboCop film, with Weller, hyperviolence and dark feel/tone from the first movie (for the most part). The third doesn't have any of that. Granted that's intentional to an extent but that doesn't make it any more acceptable. R3 is good for what it is, but I don't like what it is, and what is it is isn't a RoboCop film, but a film with RoboCop in it - similar to how Johan was saying the others weren't true characters but just actors acting, and the damn movie is like that - it feels artificial.

BUT, I've said all this before so I'll quit now. Still, there are good points for R3, which I acknowledge. Otherwise I wouldn't have even given it as high a rating as I did. When the high points are a single prop, a couple of scenes and a 9-year old girl, the movie as a whole just can't be really good.

Robo 3 COULD have been a great film....i mean, the basic foundation was there : OCP,bought out yet greedier than ever, finally willing to do whatever it takes to get Delta City up and running....but this time, they find the people of Detroit have finally had enough, and are willing to stand up to this threat once and for all...and in the middle,RoboCop! a human soul in an OCP-manufactured body, his decision, the side he chooses, will decide the fate of everyone in Detroit...

of course,though,they fucked it up....

 RoboCop - 10/10 : the perfect film: action,violence,deep soul-searching moments,empathatic characters,and just a fun fucking film wrapped up in a nice,luscious,Christmas gift-pack of 90 minutes of not a wasted frame...

RoboCop 2 - 8/10 : i love the shit out of it,but it does have some flaws : a severe, dark, mean streak to it that the attempts at humor and satire DON'T offset this time....also,literally EVERYONE is an asshole except for Robo and Lewis (and she only qualifies for a cameo)....RoboSalsa sucks bad,too...

RoboCop 3 - 5/ 10 : had the potential to be a great, final chapter in the trilogy, but instead came off as a cheaper, downgraded Lifetime movie version....acting generally sucks, effects are cheapo, villains suck....

I'd have to say:

Robocop: 11/10 It doesn't get any better than this for Robocop and the film is a work of perfection. I've seen it hundreds of times and still love every minute of it which i don't think I could say for any other movie so it's only fitting that it would break the chart.

Robocop 2: 8.5/10 Not a bad film at all and if it was a stand alone project it would still be pretty damn good it just doesn't compare to the original. What I like so much is that it isn't just more of the same but a different adventure with new and compelling characters and a whole new spin on Robo.

Robocop 3: 4/10 You know what it is. 3 points just because Robocop is in it. 1 point because the scene where Robocop chases down the splatter punks is great. The rest is puke.

RoboCop 3 - 3/10

I absolutely love the first two but I'd only ever own the third one if I bought a trilogy box set of it all (which I probably will as I'd very much llke the first two on Blu Ray). Of the many numerous issues I have with the third movie it the most simple reason is that for me, nobody but Weller is RoboCop. Some folks seem to think all that's needed to play that part is have a good lower face and walk about robotically but then that just does a great disservice to what Weller did with the role and while I can sit down and watch RoboCop 3 and the tv series and whatever, the character comes across more of a pale imitation RoboClone compared to the one seen in the first two films.
