RoboCop Observations

-----------------------------------

Not sure if it was discussed before, but ROBO's gun (without the extra stuff, the actual M93R before modification), you see it hanging on the wall to the left on the gun and arms store robbery scene in Robo 2 or 3, I can't remember which one, though.

Yup. One of Hob's men also holds an unmodded Beretta 93R on the Mayor as well. The standard Beretta 93R pops up here and there in movies, moreso than our special badass version.

I had not noticed this until a friend of mine pointed it out, and it is quite an odd piece.
Just when Dr Faxx enters the civic center at the end of RoboCop, she quickly pass a guy in a wheel chair.

I'm gonna assume it's a reporter, and i suppose it is meant to show that OCP doesn't care about "the weak" by having no way for the wheelchair to go down to the others....??

I don't get it, why didn't they keep and use Robo's gun after Cain's gang took him apart?

Use it for what? Cain and his gang seemed to have had quite the arsenal themselfs. I doubt he needed Robo's gun. :)

Also, if you want to get technical, only RoboCop can fire his gun. It's coded to him or something. That is at least according to the comics and the TV series.

Well said, J. They might have taken the gun.. we're never really sure I think. All we know is that RoboCop has an Auto-9 when he is brought back on-duty - we don't know for certain if it's the same gun. However if they did keep it, again, they've got plenty of firearms and perhaps, as Johan said, they could not use it (ala the 'Prime Suspect' story).

Now an obvious but notable observation is the police cars portrayed in RoboCop. Modern cops now drive around in smaller 'jelly-bean' cars much like the Taurus (Indeed, Ford is replacing the Crown Vic with the Taurus for it's standard 'Police Interceptor').

Of course, that was a bit radical in 1986, when fairly large box-bodied rear-drive V8 Caprices and Diplomats were the norm but 25 years later, you look all around and police drive exactly those cars - dark-colored, strobe-lit, jelly-beans.

Of course, police themselves are more like what RoboCop portrays which is also obvious but notable (as well as disturbing). Still, had to be said of course.

I think Robo's gun is just too heavy to carry and properly aim for a human being. In short, for people its impractical

This is off the top of my head, so I may be wrong. But in the 3rd movie, when they go underground. They pull the tracker out of his back, but in the very next scene and onward, you can still see it if I remember correctly.

wait now I remember something, Hob picked up the gun with Robo's hand attached to it so it mustn't be heavy at all.

Few other things I noticed.

Robo is only without his helmet for one scene in the second movie (dummy doesn't count).

Also not just the elvis guy Catzo dissapears, but so does the asian dude with shades.

Neat thread.....

I got one. In R3, as the guard with the semi-auto machine pistol is running up to the door to bust in on Dr Lazarus... Why doesn't he just ask the guard to simply open the door? I'm sure he has the code. Plus!

Wouldn't that guy hear everything she and Niko had been saying? OCP Security must have laxed their Hiring Policies for people who require Security Clearance.

What happens to two of Cain's henchmen?

I just watched Robocop 2 again. Throughout the beginning of the movie, Cain is surrounded by his followers.

There's the Asian guy who fights with Lewis, and the guy in the suit with the silly looking sideburns.

The last we see of them, is when Robo and the Detroit Police invade Cain's hideout. Are they murdered or arrested? Is there a deleted scene where this is shown? Forgive me if this has been answered before, but it was bothering me.

I assume the Asian guy got arrested (Lewis chases after him and not Hob when she gets back up). As for 'Catzo', the Elvis guy, it's shown in a deleted scene that he gets killed I believe, but with it not in the final film it indeed just looks like he's just vanished (presumably to another dimension :b).

They have their own specific deaths in the script. We have no idea if it was even filmed, although i assume it was, but cut later in the editing room like so many other scenes. Reason probably being that they were too violent.

In short it goes like this, the asian guy (named Gillette) has a grenade ready to throw at Robo who targets it and shoots it in his hand and it explodes. Gillette's whole arm is blown away.

Directly afterwards the Elvis guy (named Catzo ) fires the electric wire gun and it hits Robo's neck. He struggles and yanks the wire. Catzo gets thrown onto a bunch of lab equipment and takes a bath in Nuke liquid. As Catzo dies in a graphic overdose kind of way he says to Robo: " Thanks...it's great..."

Maybe they cut Catzo's death cause it was too reminiscent of Emil's "accident". Or perhaps, like in the video game, he turned into mutant!

Ahh yeah, I remember the 'Nuke mutant' from one of those older RoboCop games, so there's that. As for the other guy, there's a image in that psychotic jabble of art called Avatar's Frank Miller comic that shows Kong(Cain) getting his arm blown off in the same manner. So I guess that's makes sense.

So.. what next? :b

Man gotta source this deleted stuff,,Its amazing to me that MGM seemingly has no interest in a special edition Robo2 I mean theres a ton a shit we know about,What about the stuff we have'nt heard of because you know theres some of that out there aswell. There is with nearly every production that got as butchered as Robo2.

I know, and even for R3 it wouldve been so great to see deleted scenes and commentary from the director. Pity they missed the chance and never got the commentary from Kershner

I can see them doing some kind of new RoboCop boxset when the new movie comes out. Kinda what they did with all the Batman movies when Batman Begins hit the theaters.

In a perfect world they will put the deleted scenes as an extra but if we know MGM right they will just release the same box again. Kershners commentary for "Empire" was fun and entertaining while the one for "Never say never again" was dull and pointless so no telling what a R2 commentary could have been like.

I know, and even for R3 it wouldve been so great to see deleted scenes and commentary from the director.
Agreed. I'm a big fan of watching ( older ) crappy movie commentaries/documentaries where they explain what went wrong etc. It's a fascinating insight into the industry and what can go wrong.

In hearing about this, I'm actually quite bummed that their deaths were removed from the final cut. I have always noticed them, and then after the raid scene they're just gone never to be seen or heard from again. I would really hope that they would release something on some type of special edition in the future. Even if It's just a 5 minute commentary going over the script and a story board.
