With a somewhat unknown cast as the lead, I am pretty sure that they will do a Hollywood move and cast a big name as either the villain or some other major supporting role.

But as this is a new script, who knows what roles there will need to be filled. There might not even BE a Lewis type of character in there.

I'm pretty sure I've seen that guy in a movie, but I don't remember and I am going to make it a point to not look anything up that the guy did so I can go into the new movie with a clean slate.

True, I was just playing around with an idea about a pure chaotic future version. Its not official in any way. I am a huge Robocop fan and would also love them to keep the same design, but as all reboots go they are bound to change it.

I see. Here's hoping they wont change it.....too much :huhwhat:

And thank you for settling me about that new design, really thought they'd consider using those ideas. From an artistic point of view, they are interesting... and that's about it. They'd ruin Robocop if they would use any of those ideas (imo)

Why not do just a character piece so we can better see Robo (if you have the time).

Don't get me wrong I like the art but it isn't Robo if you get what I mean. Seeing your design for Robo nice and clearly would be great.

Also, isn't it time someone shaved Kinnaman and plonked him in the Robo helmet like the other photoshops that were done?

I did a quick test the other day but much like Chris Pine it doesn't seem to exist a photo of Joel Kinnaman where he doesn't have a beard or where he doesn't smile. As such the test I did looked terrible.

yeah Iv been thinking about that. Perhaps as the Director has hinted at, illustrating the days / weeks after the initial almagamation of machine. When the parts are still raw. Before they put on the shiny suit.

If the Archive was around in 1986 and we were discussing who was going to play the lead, wouldn;t we all be looking at pictures of Peter Weller and going "no way, he doesn't suit the role, boycott Orion Pictures!!"? Give the guy a chance, he may not look like he suits the role now to some of you, but remember there's gonna be a lot of time between now and when we see it on the big screen and he could change himself vastly and bulk up or whatever and remember there'll be lots of make up added to him too so he'll probably not be that recognisable at the end of it all. Don't crucify the guy before we've even given him a chance!

Well, Peter Weller never played third fiddle to Denzel Washington (one of my least favorite actors) and Ryan Reynolds (The ABSOLUTE WORST comedian/actor ever)...
Hey, Safe House was totally bitchin. I don't much care for Denzel and even less for Reynolds, but they were both awesome. Joel was decent enough. He was only in there for one fight scene really.

But yeah I said it before and I'll say it again; don't get me wrong, Joel is a fine choice either way. He's skinny as was Weller and that ultimately made the transition from weak fleshy cop, to indestructible cyborg badass all the more visually convincing.

But my complaint from the beginning is that yes, he looks too much like a junkie. It's not so much his face and stache, but also his vulture posture.

Even in Safe House where he just played some regular guy, he looked a little shady.

SPOILERS:
Though that's what they were aiming for. As he was a "bad guy".
END SPOILERS.

So yeah, hopefully he can break out of his type casted role of meth head and pull out a performance that shows his ability to transcend roles.

But my problem with all this is A) a remake? i mean really... the original still holds up & is a classic & should never be tampered with... PERIOD!! B) the new concept art... hmm no thanks, keep the original look of Robocop.. otherwise to everybody here... will it really be Robocop if they change everything that we love about the character? God damn i say bring back Peter Weller and just cg his face to look younger like they did with Jeff Bridges in Tron... we all know Mr Weller IS ROBOCOP!! anyway rant over.. that is all

I've never heard about him. And I think the voice is extremely important in this kind of role, since the only 'visible' part of him will be his mouth (unless they make him to remove his helmet again for some reason), but you can't hide the voice. Though, some voice effects will certainly be included to do it as closer as possible to Weller's voice. Hard to believe this is gonna work, TBH. But let's see what happens.

Sigh..... :ohdear: Why would they even bother recasting, rewriting, and reimagining every aspect of the film, if they are "certainly" going to make his voice sound just like Weller's?

Can we stop making absurd and illogical statements now? There seems to be a lot of repeating easially accessable news, facts, and common sense lately. I guess this is a result of the recent influx of new members, but come on. Yes, I'm new around here, see my quantity of posts and public 'trust'

That's not absurd and even less illogical imo. Even with a brand new story, new characters and script, the whole thing will sound 'fake' because you won't hear the familiar 'dead or alive, you're coming with me'. It's quite difficult for people to watch a new Robocop movie without remembering the previous ones, and it becomes worse when you are a true Robocop fan. Robocop 3 proved what I'm saying here.

However, I respect every new effort that are being applied to this new motion picture and wish them good luck. I'm from Brazil and have a huge respect for the director they selected to do this project, he is very capable.

I don't have much to say about this movie yet. I can't decide if its excitement or anticipation that I feel. I do think Jose padilha is a good choice and I still haven't seen Joel kinnaman in anything but snippets from "The Killing" but he looks like a good choice. And some guy in the comments section over at SLASHFILM claims he read a draft of the script(doubtful) and said it was a good story but most of the Robo scenes were towards the end of the movie.
Who knows. Me, I'm waiting to see some idea of what the suit (if there even IS a suit) is gonna look like before I know wether or not I'm excited. The suit is at the heart of what made me fall in love with robocop in the beginning.

As been told by the the director, the new movie mostly takes place during the creation process. As such we can assume Murphy will only become Robo at the end of the movie and the rest deals with him being a cop, getting killed and being turned into a machine.

I'm sure they will get some action scenes in there as well, but I expect to see a movie focused on the emotional aspect more, which is good or bad depending on your point of view.

I think the praise it has been receiving is because the film is excellent for a BRAZILIAN production...which has nothing on Hollywood. So while it's a big deal for them, it's just another film to us. Keep in mind that Verhoeven came from a similar background, making some of the biggest Dutch films before heading to the US. I prefer Verhoeven's early work to what I've seen of Palh...the new guy's stuff, but there are a lot of similarities between the two.

From the sounds of it, this will be RoboCop for today's younger generation, but the fact it will concentrate more on the creation process and hopefully shed more depth on Murphy interests me. I can remember just before I watched RoboCop for the first time at my cousins' house in 1993, one of them said he was looking forward to seeing how they create RoboCop which only amounted to about 5 or so minutes.

With what you said here Johan, to me its almost like the movie is going to be a prequel kinda like the Star Wars movies where they started with I think what was later considered to be number 4 then over time they came out with 1-3. So if its true that you don't see no Robo til the end it could lead to more moives yet to come

Also in that one picture someone posted of Joel Kinnaman without his facial hair and smile, kinda reminded me of Eminem just in my opinion

I'm a big fan of shows where the plot unfolds slowly (The Wire, Mad Men) and this show's been getting a lot of praise from critics. But it hasn't really picked up much attention with anyone I know personally. In any case it'll be good to see how he is as an actor here and how it'll contrast with the new RoboCop.

Agreed. We have had an origin story. An honest cop gets blown away and rebuilt into a cyborg to fight crime, but actually discovers his humanity. As far as I'm concerned Murphy is unremarkable. He's just a straight up cop. He has no hidden past and needs no origin story.

Indeed, it is Murphy's role as an everyman at the start of it that makes it easy to relate to him and his journey. We know little more than that he is an all-American family man before he turns into Robocop, and that is when the character development begins.
