So help a guy out here, what does the remastered digital print actually mean? U assume the master print is cleaned from dust and stuff like that? How much will the actual change be from say a recent blu-ray release?

I was about to write that.

Hopefully they'll clean the print up and show it un UK theaters. Then I'll have good reason to flop my junk out in the cinema and enjoy a romantic evening with myself and the poor bastard who gets dragged along with me.

I think it will be a 4k Version. So expect 400% improvement.

They also did this with Taxi Driver from Martin Scorsese.

‘Serenity,’ ‘RoboCop,’ ‘Clockwork Orange’ Highlight Hero Complex Film Festival May 18-21

The third annual Hero Complex Film Festival, presented by the Los Angeles Times, is as star studded as ever. Taking place from May 18-21 at Regal Cinemas L.A. LIVE Stadium 14, this year’s line up goes from zombies, to cult classics, animation and superheroes. It all begins with Zack Snyder and Robert Kirkman presenting Dawn of the Dead followed by Edgar Wright and Shaun of the Dead. Saturday starts with a digitally remastered version of RoboCop with Peter Weller, A Clockwork Orange with a Malcolm McDowell Q&A and finally the hugely underrated Super with star Rainn Wilson. Then on Sunday, Andrew Stanton will present the Oscar-winning WALL-E, Nathan Fillion will present Serenity and finally there will be ‘An Evening With Stan Lee,’ which will feature a screening that is yet to be announced.

After the jump, find out how you can get tickets and more.

A limited supply of advance tickets are being made available to Los Angeles Times members at a 50% discount starting Wednesday. Tickets will go on sale to the general public at 10am Thursday, April 26 at latimes.com/herocomplexfilmfest.

Single screenings are $20 a piece and a limited quantity of festival passes will be available $105; includes admission to the entire lineup and the 2012 event poster designed by DC Comics’ co-publisher Jim Lee. There’s more info at herocomplex.com.

This is the festival’s third year and besides showing classic films from the past few decades, the Q&A’s with Los Angeles Times reporter Geoff Boucher are always enlightening and fun. Plus, you never know who else might show up. Simon Pegg for Shaun? Joss Whedon for Serenity? Stanley Kubrick for A Clockwork Orange? Anything is possible. 2Pac did show up at Coachella, after all.

If you can’t make it to LA for this weekend, don’t worry, I’ll be on hand to report on the Q&As if anything massive and exciting comes out of it. Will I see you there?

While getting rid of the grain on some of the older films can be great (especially on low light scenes), from the pictures I have seen some of them make the characters look like they're made of plastic.

RoboCop and the sequel (I wouldn't know about the third as I still can't sit through it) look pretty damned good. Out of my Blu-Rays that are twenty or more years old they stand up as some of the better ones.

Of course I would love to see an even better version, but if it ruins the look with over enthusiastic use of grain reduction then that's a damned shame. Maybe some of the charm in older films (not that twnety years is really that old) is having a bit of grain.

The most perfect natural way too see the old robo again! is: in the cinema on film:Make a new Copy from the masterprint and show it on film not digital.

If you really want to see a perfect version of robo? you must see the masterprint on Film in a cinema at MGM studios.

The ROBOCOP film is meant to be seen in Cinema on film. Not Digital,VHS,Betamax,DVD, or Blu Ray. But this story goes up for every film made on film.

So, if I'm understanding you correctly, you're saying I should go see the master print in the cinema if I want to see the perfect RoboCop transfer?
Ok. Well I don't have a time machine that could take me back to 1987. I don't have the money to take a trip to the UK to see the remastered print. I missed my chance to go see it in Dallas last week ( and judging from the pictures of the theatre it wasn't too impressive). And I can't imagine MGM re-releasing it in theaters anytime soon. So I'm thinking bluray is my best option right now and they haven't done it justice YET.

So I went to the Liverpool screening on Tuesday. They showed the Director's Cut version and I can honestly say it was an awesome experience. Hearing the score of this great movie booming out of the big screen was definately a highlight and the blood seemed to be a lot more free flowing  . However was not like a remastered version as some scenes where really grainy.

Go to your theater and ask your money back because the Chance is Sky high they showed you a directors cut on blu ray by Beamer.
Did you hear a projector in the background of the theater? if not it's blu ray via a beamer. or a ROBOCOP Version on a Harddisk or USB stick.
as i know a directors cut on film doens't exist for theaters only MGM has it for their own.
Since 2012 in some countries in europe they went digital, the projector days on film are over.

by the way was the Dojo/Room full packed?

I don't have the link handy but I read recently that Verhoeven said in an interview that he oversaw a remastered version Bluray recently and that the studio (MGM?) was 'sitting on it'. I assume it will coincide with the release of the remake like they did with the new Total Recall transfer. One can only hope. Maybe we could see some new behind the scenes stuff. We know it's out there: like the '87 interview with Weller in police uniform and the awesome behind the scenes that Entertainment Tonight had recently.
