The BEST moments in RoboCop 1-3 Topic

-----------------------------------

Post your favorite stuff.
Not whole scenes but those finer moments in the three movies.

RoboCop 1:
When robo is first revealed in the Police precinct . The thuds of his footsteps and a faint distorted image in the glass.

RoboCop 2:
When Robo steps out of the burning Police car. A fantastic entrance i can watch over and over again.

RoboCop 3:
Although kinda stupid, when Robo pops up threw the car roof and first uses the gunarm. (wouldn't it be quicker to just..open the door?)

Johan, you nailed it. This is an awesome scene. Hands down-thrilling for those of us who were dying to catch a glimpse of him when the film first appeared.

My other favorite scene in the original was when Robo smashes all those glass walls with Boddicker's face.

  That's awesome..
My favourite parts are

Robo1:
Introduction of Robo, part where he dreams in the chair ,"you may not like what youre going to see" part and probably the best is
the part of the ED-209 fight when you see his eye blinking through the broken visor. That's so cool..

Robo2:
Stepping out of the car/introduction and "Cain, you're coming with me."

Robo3:Just the whole introduction scene (punching in the radio, driving to the top of the parking lot and ofcourse "Police officer! No loitering.")
And Lewis' death, Robo carrying her to the altar.

RoboCop 1

The first reveal of RoboCop, where you see him on the TV screen, way cool.

Anything Boddicker does.

Detroit in general, is a good setting.

Emil and the toxic waste.

RoboCop's dataspike

The whole scene at the end in the water.

ED-209

Bob Morton death scene.

Revealing Murphy's face.

RoboCop 2

RoboCain, enough said.

The comedy with the prototypes,

Cain's operation.

The whole scene in the arcade. And the later Duffy torture scene, brutal stuff.

The fight in the auditorium.

RoboCop 3

The rehabs

ED-209

Lewis' death and the emotions from Robo.

Hello everyone.

RoboCop
Murphy's scenes.
RoboCop's awakening and when he is revealed/shooting range.
When RoboCop first leaves the police station.
RoboCop's busts.
RoboCop's nightmare.
RoboCop going to his/Murphy's old home.
The warehouse scene and the following scene at the police station.
RoboCop Vs ED-209 and the following SWAT team scene.
RoboCop's unmasking.
The Cobra Assault Cannon's intro/Street mayhem.
RoboCop Vs. the Boddicker Gang/Clarence's death.
RoboCop Vs ED-209 - Round 2.
The death of Jones.
'Nice shooting son, what's your name?' 'Murphy.'
(So pretty much the whole film)

RoboCop 2
RoboCop's entrance/drug den bust/RoboCop sees his wife.
RoboCop's reprogramming into an embodiment of political correctness.
RoboCop wipes his directives/Detroit police return to work/chasing Cain.
RoboCop Vs RoboCop 2.
'Patience, Lewis. We're only human.'

RoboCop 3

Duffy, I have to be honest with you.
Robocop 3 does suck ass through a straw, but it's not THAT bad.
It has it's moments, and come on, it's a part of your general education.
So watch it, but keep your expectations low.
I mean, you cant compare it to Robocop 1 & 2 but you still have to watch it.

Afterwards, if you still consider it the definition of digested fesces licked off the top of an 80-year old mans ass after his morning shit, watch Prime Directives.

Suddenly Robocop 3's starting to look pretty good...

okay some of the minor redeeming qualities to part 3.

the RETURN of Basil Poledouris i really could not stand Leonard Rosenman (or how ever the crap you spell his last name)
The color scheme of RoboCop's armor. I really dug the glossy blue and glossy blacks of the 2 suit, but the suit in 3 was just so good looking.
ED 209! true the reprogramming him to make him "Loyal as a puppy." was over the top but the stop motion animation was vintage Phil Tippet
RoboCop deleting DIRECTIVE 4, I saw that in the theater and seeing the PDs scroll across the screen and having the 4th one disappear was pretty damn cool (why didn't he do that in the first place?).
Robo's reaction to Lewis's death (as much as I HATED having her killed off, their final scene was good, followed by the OFFICER DOWN and Murphy lowering his head).
Oh i forgot a few more, when Robo was at the church and going over his prime directives one by one as he was looking back into the church and out towards the street, that and the sweet music by Poledouris really one of my favorite scenes in the movie.
Robo confronts McDagget in the seedy motel room. when he shoots the door open and he walks in and he is partially a silhouette from the back lighting  .

There's actually this one part in Robocop 3, where he shoots the pistol out some Rehab dude's hand. He continues shooting at the pistol at different angles, virtually suspending it in mid air for a couple seconds...

When the gun finally drops, Murphy utters "Don't".

In my opinion, that scene would've held up in the first Robocop movie... Somewhere in that initial intro wave of crime fighting incidents...

oh one other thing, the fx that made robo have a missing lower arm. weather he was removing it in the police car and adding the gun arm, or it was chopped off. when the ninja chopped off the fingers and later the arm the fake arm that was attached to the suit was more believable then then when robo had his hand blown off in part 2 with that 'longer' lower arm area  .

Well, Burke certainly can't match Weller, but he wasn't that bad as Robo in my opinion. Really of all things that made the movie bad, was it the lack of Burke that brought it down? How about little girls disassembling ED-209's and Ninjas? Now, I'm not supporting this movie, but in my opinion Burke was the movies stronger point. I have to agree with you about the flight pack though...that's just stupid.

The SplatterPunk scene was okay untill Robo started talking.

I did think it was effective how you saw very little of Robo up untill that scene, only catching glimpses of him.

It worked well, shame the rest of the film is a piece of hairy arse...

I thought Robert Burke was a GREAT robo, much better than the series or 'tinycop' (sorry murphy38 :opps: ) in PD. I thought his 'robo voice' was very good :thumb1: the only thing i could have done without was the dubbed in sound fx of Robo's arms moving when he walked (it was not in 1 or 2, why was it in 3?).

R2: After Cain massacred his former gang and robo shows up. His movements from the time he enters the building until he discovers Hob are awesome. Weller moves the suit in this scene.

-----------------------------------

I don't know that these are the "best," per se, but they're the moments I find memorable.

R1:

The first media-break. Brilliant and succinct way to introduce us to RoboCop's world without getting too heavy or requiring an opening text.

Introduction of Lewis--good way of showing someone who could keep up with RoboCop.

Boardroom scene--the yes-men clap after every line.

Clarence freaking out over the money--and then, of course, tossing the offender out of the truck as a human weapon. Awesome.

The extended cut, circling shot of the Weller puppet finishing with Clarence putting a bullet in his head. I didn't catch that it was a puppet the first time around and freaked out.

RoboCop aiming for the balls to stop a rapist. Classic.

RoboCop visiting his former home. This is a perfect sequence, and the one I think that really carries the film.

"Must be the champagne." Bob, it's never the champagne. :)

There are two specific shots in the coke factory bust that stand out. One is RoboCop shooting across himself to get one of the catwalk perps, (I used to have that as an avatar) and the other is the bird's eye shot where he drills a guy three feet away from him.

The gun twirl. 'nuff said.

ED-209 being unable to operate stairs. That's one of those things you wonder about when you see other sci-fi robots with wheels for feet, or mech-warrior legs...do they just build ramps for everybody in the future?

"Murphy had a wife and son, what happened to them?"

"You can keep the gum."

"Bye-bye, baby!"
"CLARENCE!"
(This scene still gives me a thrill every time I see it)

"Nice shooting son, what's your name?"
"...Murphy."
(Ditto on this scene. It is my favorite ending, my favorite use of the music, favorite last line....God, it just WORKS so well! That's what I love about R1--it works!)

(sigh)
R2:

The first commercial. I want one of those for my car. That, and Glover = awesome.

RoboCop's footstep out of the car. I hate everything else about that scene, but the footstep is a worthy inclusion. (Inclusion...is that a real word?)Also because of the way the lit the suit in that scene--why couldn't it look like that during the rest of the movie? (Or at least how it looked in the posters/promotional stills)

RoboCop changing the clip. I like that.

"You see, RoboCop's...off warranty."
"He's one of mine! And I want him back on his feet!"
(Nice little exchange, and good to see other people besides Lewis care about RoboCop.)

"Dead or alive, you're coming with me."
"One of us must die."
"Dead, then."

"Ooh...they gonna kick somebody's ass!"

Johnson overall was an improvement. He's coming up in the corporate ladder, but he's still got a conscience.

RoboCop taking the Cobra Assault Cannon to use against RoboCain. I would have.

When RoboCain is targeting people, in his P.O.V. the Mac trashcan logo pops up. Nice little touch.

The trailer. (*cough*BasilPoledouris*cough*)

...that's about it, for me.

I agree, that was the best partve of that movie ( was really a low budget crappy movie). I was looking forward to hearing Basil's CONAN 3 soundtrack, but certain events made that movie fall apart back in 2003/04, what a shame. He was an excellent composer and will be missed.

my favorite moments:

Robo 1:

when Morton kisses the tech and says "I fucking LOVE that guy!"

when robo steps in the warehouse, looks around and sees all the guns pointed at him,and just says "Come quietly,or there will be...trouble!"

when robo has perfect aim and shoots the rapist in the balls.

Robo 2:

when Robo-Cain sees The Old Man with the container of Nuke, and just starts..fidgeting...

"Cops, man! And they ain't carrying no picket signs!" "They gonna kick somebody ass!"

Cain'r realization that things won't be "great",physically, between him and angie...and his response..

Robo 3:

when the exec jumps out the window...only for us to see him hit the ground aa minute later...

the whols speech by Reed in the precinct, whereas all the cops quit...

RC1: "Come quietly or there will be... trouble." "Aw, fuck you!"

The rest of the shootout is fucking awesome.

RC2: "Think it over, creep!"

Irvin Kershner invented the 'RoboFoot stepping into frame' shot with this sequence, we got to see a police car flip over and explode, we're introduced to Robo's shiny new suit, and we get a gun twirl to boot. So sexy. :D

RC3: "I must commandeer your vehicle for police use."

It's kinda sad that the best part of this movie is Robo driving around in a PimpMobile. The action was lackluster and humor was way off the mark... but seeing Robo get inside the car and give a total WTF look to the interior just works for me.

the more i watch R1 the more i like the scene in the coke factory, it starts as a hail of gunfire, and as the scene progresses the gunshots diminish until it is just robo firing. he just walked in by himself and nuetralized just about everyone!

also one more thing about this scene, i've noticed 2 goofs, has anyone ever noticed that as robocop is bringing clarence into the police station, if you look behind sgt reed, joe cox is standing behind the booking desk?!(and he is not even handcuffed, he is reading some file) but he was in the coke factory with clarence just a minute ago , and robo didn't bring cox in with him. how the hell did he get to the police station? also if you look closely as robo is battering down the reinforced door of the factory , the door hinges dont have any pins in them...ahhhhh the magic of movies!

i also like when he whips out his spike and stick it in clarence's neck very swift and powerful, just such a good "oh, yeah ? gotcha last" moment! and the look on Peter Weller's face just seems so perfect. great scene. It really is a shame he has no interest in talking about robocop , although when i HAD the directors cut there was alot of still photos that were very interesting, maybe Mr. Weller just didn't like the job (having to wear a 50+ pound hot sweaty nasty suit for the majority of the movie , squibs blowing up around you all the time etc. pyrotechnics is very dangerous. i don't know just a thought i guess.

i guess the thing that i find most "disturbing" or whatever about murphy's mutilation is that the thugs have no mercy whatsoever and simply shoot until they run out of ammo, not that getting your hand blown off doesn't make for a bad day , but all the shotgun blasts just really sucks, i try to think what could be going through someone's mind while that is happening to them>? makes for a real bad day , even if you live, but i always think that that was probably the type of condition they left frank fredrickson and the other 31 slain officers in also , just badly destroyed shattered mutilated messes like that.
that is one thing veerhoven was good for is over the top vioence, that makes you say "yuck" and "ouch"

I just love everything  , but my favorite parts are:

- The first appearance of robocop in the police station
- The drug factory raid (I have to see that scene at least once a week, or I go nuts)
- The catch frases like: "Dead or alive, you are coming with me!", "I am not arresting you anymore" (It makes me think like this, "oh I gave you a chance lo live in prison, but now... you´ll be dead")
- Just love the last sentence: "what´s your name?" -"Murphy" :robo1:

Robocop 2

- Getting out of the flaming car!!!
- The little time when he "unplugs" the cable attatched to his helmet, and gets of the police station to shock him self (to get rid of those stupid directives)
- Robocop VS RoboCain

Robocop 3

- Blow the top of the car!!!!
- Running the car from the top of a building
- ED209 blowing the cop cars!!!
- Robo burning the Rehabs HQ

I feel the exact same way, Phil. I always like lots of gunfire scenes, and the drug-lab shoot-out is a good one. :)

With that being said, I should also mention another great scene in R1 (for me, anyway) -

The scene with the DPD gunning down Robo in the OCP park after he confronts Dick Jones. Lots of gunfire, and it's a real deep and powerfully tragic scene as well. I watch that one a lot.

Robocop 1 - There's just so many, when Murphy's murdered, when He is introduced (the part in the precinct where they take the bag of his head).
His first car ride as Robocop, the soundtrack just blows me away everytime i hear it!
Then there's the huge Robo - Edd209 face-off at OCP. the 'Directive 4- part before that freaked me out the first time i saw it.
Oh and the scene where robo walks through his old home and has flashbacks of his family.

Robocop 2 - His "l'Entrance Magnefique" from the burning car, when he picks the guy up holding his nostrils - made me laugh.
When he got stripped (i know that sounds sick but It's cool) The part where RoboCain steps off the lorry and owns everybody, just so cool ! and the big fight at he end.

What upset me about Robocop 2 was the use of a DIFFERENT soundtrack, it would have been better with the original. it sounded a bit like a classical Ghostbusters to me.

Robocop 3 - Not many to mention, the start where robocop owns the Splatterpunks, the burning of the REHAB precinct, the part where all the officers drop their police badges (sense of pride, dunno why) The first fight with the Ninja where he blows the ninja's head off and the flight pack scene.

I think I speak for everyone that Robocop 2 should have been directed by Verhoeven, because if he directed Robocop 2 then all three would have been interconnected, but the story wasnt carried on, they were all different. I mean in Robocop 2 you saw glimpses of his wife that was continued from the first film but was she in the third ??

Come on guys!!!! You are all over reacting!!!!

Robert Burke is a good actor! He did a great job as robocop! We can´t blame him for the dumb scrip!!! Be real guys!!

I know we had Niko in the movie (now that was crap), but even the police chase was cool!! We had a good criminal (McDagget)!!!

The Ninja had a good style, to bad the fight scene were not that good....
But we must be real, the movie is not horrible!!! It what nice to see, and about robocop 3 voice..,. of course he had a different voice (he is a different actor)

Of course the first robo movie is the best, but we can´t expect allways the same moves, the same lines, and the same appearence!
Because I like to see robo blowing up the car roof! :D

Did anyone else thought it was odd that one of the villains was a 12 year old kid (Hob) ?

I mean come on, was there a trend of pre-adolescent Drug tycoons back then ?

Not only do I like the shoot outs too, but I like emotional bits:

Robo visits his old house and it reveals what his wife has to really tell him... "I love you". Wow, gets me every time!!

And also the police firing on him after his fight with ED209 - poor Robo, after following his directives that OCP gave him, OCP then go against him. The first time I watched Robo I did shed a tear there (please don't tell anyone!).

I noticed alot of people don't like much in R3, but I think the best scene is in the church, where Robo and Lewis are outside faced with McDagget, and Robo is once again conflicted by his own directives. What is the best choice? Does the computer or human make the decision? Then it results in, unfortunately, Lewis's death (*sadness*), and Robo making friends, hoorah!

Yeah that's a good scene, but for it's gonna be his tear up in the drug factory and subsequent arrest of Boddicker, I wonder how many bad guys he shoots... I've watched it countless times and never really taken note... But, I digress, seeing that scene, targeting the bad guys and then wading through the factory was at twelve years old an epiphany...

Robocop 2: when robo takes out the badguy in the bust scene holding the baby, angled trajectory shot off the steel door, ping!

ROBOCOP: Visiting "home":

Now, of course the movie is all great and loaded with great scenes. But if I really had to pick one, just one moment/scene, then its this one. Works beautifully. By the time it starts, everything's starting to really roll. The first domino piece was pushed and the chain reaction has started - Robo has made a move to uncovered the mystery of his identity and goes back home. Just that first shot of the street and "Home" starting to play is magic. The movie gets a personal touch and emotional boost from now on, and the character is so well developed that youre really anticipating his comeback and youre on the edge of your seat to see whats he's gonna find there. And then inside, Peter's excellent performance and music work so well together, nicely intercut with his memories. Just a very strong scene which makes you involved even more and makes you feel the hero's pain and sense of loneliness and realization of loss. As I call this scene - a jewel in the crown of the story

ROBOCOP 2: Nuke factory bust at the beginning:
Great great opening for the movie. Sets up the feel, cruelty and darkness of the film and the world its set in. You see the drug lords calmly getting away, you see minor swearing murderers, people forced to work with drugs to feed kids etc etc. Very strong scene that prepars you for the gory action and toughens you up for the rest of the movie which gets rmore and more hardcore. That and of course, the bike chase scene

http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a277/lovegunner/Batman/r2.jpg

ROBOCOP 3: I really tried and took time to think of something, but can't. Theres just not one thing. Action is cartoonish and pretty much everything else is.

Out of curiosity (and possibly for a future entry in my Robo blog), I counted all the votes for every scene. It looks like this

R1
The winner is Factory Shootout with 12 votes. The runner ups are the reveal with 9 and then theres plenty tied for the 3rd place with 6, like Kinney's death, taking the helmet off, Murphy's execution, visiting home, fight with ED and ball buster

R2
The winner is the fight with RoboCain with 9 votes. The runner ups are the foot out/introduction with 8 votes and RoboCain's warehouse massacre with 7

R3
The winner is nothing/end credits with 15 votes, and the runner ups are the ED 209 scene with 6 votes, and for the 3rd place theres a tie between the "Resisting Arrest" line and popping out of the car hood with 4 votes

I updated the post with the results above from what I could find online, from reviewers, to lists, to forums to youtube comments. It all pretty much matches RA members' choices. Funny how R3 is universally hated and called either a joke or piece of or pile of "something", and it aint good moviemaking

Thats because Fred Dekker (Director) and Frank Miller (Writer) ruined everything which had been had been created in the first two movies.

Burke, although not as good as Weller cant be blamed for the appauling mess which we now all know as RoboCop 3.

I remeber watching RoboCop 3 back in 1993 as a child and almost crying because it was so fucking stupid, anyway, I digress.

My 'best bits' aside form the brilliant directing and dark undertones throughout the first two films;

R1
Robcop of his first patrol
Drug factory raid and RoboCops 'no look' shooting
ED209 fight and SWAT team
Steel Mill end scene "Im not arresting you anymore"

R2
Opening scene and RoboCops entrance
Drug factory raid and ricochet headshot
Warehouse battle, RoboCops 'no look' shooting and Cains gang 'dismantling' RoboCop
"Cain! Lets step outside"

Im could pretty much say the whole of the first two film but I've tried to pick out the bits that stand out.

It is not at all easy to pick a favorite scene from the first movie. There's plenty of great ones, but none that immediately stands out and has you go "That, without a doubt, is the greatest highlight of the movie".

I thought about it for a while and I'll have to go with Robocop's first night out. We've waited a good chunk of the movie to see him and after the masterful unveiling at the police station, it really does payoff seeing what he is capable of. The scene shows it all: bulletproof armoring, absolute precision shooting, superhuman strenght and even thermal vision.

As for Robocop 2, it too has many great scenes, but it's an easy pick: the fight with Robocain, which to this day I consider the best showdown between two robots/cyborgs ever shot on film.

Robocop 3, is also an easy choice for me, this time because most of the movie sucks, leaving only so many options... and I'd say the part of the movie I enjoy the most is the car chase between Robocop and MacDagget, right after Robo's found him hiding in the hotel. It's certainly not without its flaws, but it's the closest this movie gets to a well made action scene.

After all these years, I just remembered that Robo does have thermal vision. I completely forgot seeing how it's only used once in that one particular scene in the mayor's office. Must have just glazed over it for years.

Strange it was never used again. Could've had some interesting applications.

Haven't seen anything outside of the actual movies. Always saw Prime Directives at the local Blockbuster but always remembered catching a bit of it, with BoneMachine(?) I believe, and being amazed even at a younger age with how horrible it was.

I suppose one of these days I'll have to rent them. Sigh.....

On topic, one thing that always gets me in the first film, was the entire individuality and character put into Clarence and his Gang. I always find myself smiling and cracking up at any of the scenes they're in. Each aspect of their persona from the actor playing them, to the wardrobe, to the dialog is just great. An amount of detail never seen again in the main Goons of any film.

Clarence slapping and kicking Emil in the get away truck, the whole "Nee nee nee nee nee nee nee" bit before he blows off Murphy's hand, Joe's crazy high pitched laugh. All of it pure gold.

Shit, now I really wanna watch R1.

Seriously, regardless of if you're a fan of the movie itself or not. Everyone can enjoy just how much attention and detail was put into each character throughout the movie.

Without bringing up any of the other characters and adding on to what you said about the Wrecking Crew. Emil always stood out for me. For several reasons.

1. He really seems to be a man who enjoys his work. Every time you see him(just about), he's laughing, cracking a joke, smiling, or just having a blast or getting a thrill out of whatever he's doing. Plus, when someone bad happens or there's a set back. He doesn't let it bring him down. He just tries to bounce right back and move on.

2. He isn't the number one or even number two guy, but just like the rest of Boddicker's boys, he doesn't just fade into the background. You remember him and appreciate things about him.

3. He manages to get to have some good screen time and have some good lines. Even simple things like Clarence placing Murphy's helmet on his head in the death scene, to him saying his hilarious,"I like it" line after firing off the new hardware. Plus, my personal favorite and line that inspired my username.

4. And of course, no one can forget his death. Need I say more really? It's just awesome, disgusting, and ridiculous all in one.

RoboCop 1 - Murphy's execution and scene when RoboCop comes in his house... That's very powerful scene. Specially when he catched foto with his family and looked at it. And Of Course end of the movie with end credits and beautiful score... :)

RoboCop 2 - Robo and Cain fight. I don't like much this movie, but Fight with two robots it's good

RoboCop 3 - Flashback from R1, unfortunely that's all. I don't see more good things in it.

You guys have already mentioned all the great reveals and money shots, so I guess I'll just mention the stuff I get a kick out of watching without fail every time I see it.

Robocop 1:

1) I always get a kick out of ED-209's first entrance and that creepy static-electronics sound as he springs to life and steps forward. You can't tell if it's meant to be like music or the sound of his motors, or both, but it's ingeniously scary. 8D

And I can't help laughing every time ED-209 gets confused by the stairs and freaks out like a demented turkey.

2) Lewis punching the guy she just brought in out before meeting her new partner. I love 80s movies.

3) Guy through freezer window. It would probably have been cheaper for the couple to have their store robbed than for Robocop to come in and trash it, but whatever, Robocop's adventures on his first night fighting crime are ace. I noticed the guy picked up an "Iron Man" comic too...

...and the way Robo deals with Miller. There are two things I find inexplicably hilarious in most films: people on phones, and people falling off/out of things.

4) Murphy visiting his old house. Just a really powerful scene and the music is gorgeous. That house kinda haunts me too, now.

5) "Don't touch me maaaaaaaaan!" XD

6) Robo removing his helmet and looking at himself after however long it's been since he saw his own face, and Lewis deciding to stick with Robo to fight the gang rather than escaping, and helping him fix his tracking. Any Murphy/Lewis moments really.

7) Robo using the Auto-9 on the range. Mm mm.

8) The drugs factory shootout scene shows how indestructible Robo is to the average criminal with a gun, he stomps those guys like bugs. You want him to stomp Clarence, but you know he can't. Doesn't mean he can't throw him around a bit first.

9) The moment when Clarence gets close enough to trapped Robocop for him to snap out the data spike and stick him in the neck with it. It's great. I know some people thought Clarence deserved a much more horrible death, but it's more that you see Robo than Clarence in that moment and you know the deed's done without Robo compromising his values. At that point he's more bothered about Lewis than himself, he seems much more human from this point on. Plus the speed and the way he cracks that spike out is neat.

10) "Nice shooting son, what's your name?" Obv.

I really love all of Robo's robotic sound effects and the sound of his walking. It's satisfying somehow.

Robocop 2:

1) Robo vs Robocain.

2) Brain splat

Robocop 3:
