I remember seeing Robo 1 on video shortly after it was released, I will never forget seeing that film for the first time. I was 7 or 8, which makes the year 1988. That makes me a fan for 19 out of my 26 years and counting. That's 3/4 of my life man.

Dear all,

Actually I started with the cartoon first, then my cousin told me that the cartoon was actually based on a movie.

In around 1990, when the movie was aired in TV, I recorded it, I LOVED IT!!!

After watching like 50+ times of the video tape, I went to rent the Laser Disc and see the more violent version.

I dont even remember the first time I saw RObocop.......My dad had a poorly dubbed version from a Blockbuster tape back in the 80's when video was the new big thing. I would always beg to have him pop it into our giant silver top loading VCR machine and then watch it over and over again! I may have been 4......That would make it 1988.

Me, HBO 1987. Back when movies were released on pay channels before VHS. 20 years all the way.

I'll always associate the smell of tuna casarole with my first viewing of RoboCop.

In fact, on that fateful day on the 20th year, I'm gonna have tuna Casarole (brought to me by Tuna Helper and the Helping Hand) and watch the original release of RoboCop, followed by the Director's cut of RoboCop and follow it by the Cartoon series from Marvel, then for fun, RoboCop 2 and RoboCop 3, then the Pilot episode of RoboCop the Series.

But before all that, I'll be getting my RoboCop tatoo that I promised myself.

Yes, this summer will be special for me.

14 years man, I saw Robo on tv and my mom taped it for me. I was always worried when robo got hurt, so she recorded over the difficult parts . (I was a chicken, but Alines, and survival horror movies fixed that) I still treasure and watch that tape every so often, one of the reasons was how they censored the profanity; they actually had the actors record alternate lines, usually in my experience the tv versions would usually just have things silenced out.

Alright guys, let's add to this conversation. How about your FIRST robo possession, and when? It can be anything: your first robo toy, first VHS or first DVD...

:D Mine was the Marvel Robocop toy along with his Robo-1 car, again waaaay back in 1989.... unfortunately, lost the helmet AND his Auto-9, and broke my Robo-1... :(

I actually didn't have anything Robo eventhough I saw the flick in cinema. Didn't know there where toys. Years later my sister had a boyfriend that was a crazy KISS and SW collector and he heard about me being fan of Robocop. He arranged a cardboard cutout for me from his local videorental. I just recently found out it's not Weller... But heck I love it anyway!

My first toys are some Kenner figures and the Kenner ED209. Also got them form the sister's ex. Like 10-15 years ago.

My first toy was the Toy Island series figure of Robo with the removable panels, helmet, and a coloured inside workings. Plus I got the cruiser aswell. I no longer have that toy, the arm broke off and the parts were missing so I got rid of it which I regret (the great Robo-Purge...). I still have the cruiser though, but I broke the door and spoiler off. Adding to that I decided to give it a battle damaged look to make it match. The damage in question was scratches and a screwdriver through the windshield. Good times...

As for toys, I had the old marvel figures and vehicles, but I could never find one of Robo (just the supporting cast) When I moved to America, one of the first toys I got was the delux Robocop; it was was the one that would have the light up mouth when talking. It also came with the auto 9 and the gun arm. I still love that thing. :)

I was probably 5 or 6 (1993-94) when I saw the first Robocop at my cousins house. His parents had taped it from TV. I loved it instantly, Robo was so cool! Though I almost became sick when Murphy died everytime I saw it..
Always been a fan of robots and masked superheroes and Robocop was both!!
Then a couple of years later, guess I was 9 or 10, the second one came from TV. Taped it, got sick from the "Murphy stripped to pieces" scene and was SHIT afraid of Robocain, and finally Robo 3 when it was released on VHS. Ofcourse I used to watch the series with my dad. I remember missing an episode once and just sitting in my room the rest of the night, really bummed out. :D Born 1988 and seeing Robo1 in 93-94, guess it makes me a 13-14 year old fan!

been a fan of robocop since 1988 when i seen it on video when it came out. i was 9. my brother in law let me watch it when my sister wasn't around and after that i talked my dad into hiring it and from then on i would try to sneakily rent it from the video shop hoping they wouldn't notice the rating on it. seen robocop 2 in the theatres in 1990 when i was 11 and it completely blew me away. i loved the first movie but became obsessed with the second. still am!! after the first one everything was ed209. after the second it was all about robocain. still think its an amazing creation! i remember when robocop 2 came out on video it was really underplayed and i never knew why. it may as well have been a b-movie coming out in the video shop. and they made the rating higher so i had to struggle to hire it out again. but i liked that! made it seem like a search for the holy grail heh heh. then robocop 3 came out at the theatres in 1993 when i was 14. i enjoyed it but it didn't have anything on the first 2. plus there was no bigger badder evil robot! just a silly ninja who started off cool but turned into a turkey. i was annoyed that they broke the pattern of robo having to face a bigger enemy each time. i thought it was going to be like a ray harryhausen type thing. oh well, pretty hard to top robocain for me, anyway.

So I remember when it did come out in theatres here in the US in 1987 ( i was 7 years old) and my dad took me to see it and it was sooo cool. I remember when blockbuster had it for rent about 10 months later or so and i went in and they asked do you want it on VHS or BETA..lol Great memories. GO ROBO!

Darkman and TMNT weren't in the 80s, but still, early 90s. I was "corrupted" too. I watched R1 and 2 when I was 3 years old. I used to go to kindergarden and tell the kids about the violence and stuff and the teacher told me not to talk about those movies, cuz they weren't for kids.

Saw the first movie in 89 and loved it. Once R2 was beginning to hit the theaters, the buzz was enormous and thats when I truly became a fan. Once R3 came out and I saw it, I dropped the franchise - stopped being a fan since R3 caused everyone who used to be a Robo fan to be ashamed, not to even mention the TV series. All the kids at school were avoiding even mentioning the fact that 2 years before everyone was hot for Robo and it was THE thing. Picked up the interest again about a year ago, bought and rewatched the trilogy for the first time in more than a decade - what a thrill it was seeing it for the first time with adult mind (with the exception of R3 which was a major struggle to sit through)

AW SHIT! Suck in the guts fellas, we got one of them estrogen factories hangin around now

Just bustin your ovaries, but it is an unusual and welcome presence here on the board. If memory stands, there hasn't been another female here besides Nika for quite some time. Don't worry though, the cave dwelling chronic masturbators usually stay on their side of the computer screen. Usually......

Moving on, I can't quite remember when I was first exposed to Robo. But at that tender age when violence is real, quests are never ending, boobs make or break a film, Robots are monolithic impressions of God, and "action stars shot .45 caliber bullets out of their cocks", this movie hit me at the right time in my adolescence. But even without the haze of my child's imagination "widening the edges of the frame", I'm pretty sure I would have enjoyed the film at any age.

Or would I have? We only live in the reality in which Robo exists. These characters: Robo, Terminator, The Xenos, and etc, had permiated pretty much every single facet of my young life. Toys, comics, video games, Saturday morning cartoons. Nearly every form of popular entertainment that I and many of you grew up with, was either parodied or directly influenced by these Sci-Fi classics in one way or another. Our childhood, nay, our very psychological and social make up has had some sort of credit to give to these films.

If we are what we eat, then we most certainly are what we watch, play, and dream about. We owe everything to the drive of each other's imagination and curiosity to seek out and bring forth these fantasies from the void of our minds.

A TOAST! To the artists, to the creations, and to the struggle it takes to make it all possible!

Why didn't he ever bring back anything cool, like Robocop?

I had to 'borrow' Robo from my uncles' and then tape it myself from the TV when they discovered they were Roboless. Could have been worse I guess - compulsory Adam Sandler movies or something.
