I think the forum has, technically, been quiet since 2016 or something. :opps:

People don't hang around message boards anymore since facebook and other social media places came around.

The board will still be online but probably more as a "museum" now than anything active. The board no longer accepts new users as the amount of spam bots joining is too much work to deal with for the amount of traffic there is here.

We need that "Dick Jones" series to get a boost and have people talking crap about a newer RoboThing.

"I´m... over the hill".

I can see social media more attractive and such, but as I already said on other topics here, it feels more comfortable to go here and check stuff. It avoids getting over the same meme in the same group every 5 minutes.

That´s sad. But kinda ironic artificial beings are attracted to the RoboCop website.

If it was an active forum absolutely, but old members don't visit anymore, or very rarely. And these moderators would spend a lot of time each day deleting non-human users from a forum that real humans don't visit.

I don't feel sad or bitter about it. It's just how it is and has been for years now. Interestingly facebook used to be the "cool" place to hang out in 2016 or something and now it is a pretty uncool place to be. Kids certainly don't use facebook anymore.

I think that would be a blast. Our version of "Rings of power" that everyone was having an opinion about (and were experts on.)

I may not post much, but I still check in once a day or two to see what's happening. I admit, it will probably take the announcement of a new TV show or movie to get any real activity going around here, and even then it may not be much in comparison to other general sci-fi websites or social media platforms. Just the way things have gone in society.

Man this was the spot back in the early aughts. Still is, I would probably have a breakdown if Archive ever got back to the point of shutting down, but I doubt legacy members would ever let it get that financially dire.

But those were good times, the best, really.

Just wait for another reboot/sequel to start filming, things would blow up again I'm sure!

Yeah, with the reboot things went nuts, but sadly a bunch of these new members only wanted to talk about the 2014 iteration and then they left the forum. But I guess a new project would make newer conversations, instead of getting back to the same topics over and over again. I don´t mind talking about the stuff from the past, but I can see why other people don´t.

This year we'll finally get the long awaited documentary.

Yeah, that´s great, but I´m a little bit worried about the lack of information about the Blu Ray release. Getting in streaming first would be dangerous for some of us: I´m sure some pieces will leak online before the guys who put money for the physical release would get it on our hands.

But regardless I will be here.

Me too.

I've become well assimilated to Facebook and all but I agree it's good to still have this and spelunk around. Funny how this place after getting on a quarter-century now (holy hell that's a fucking long time you know, especially in internet years!) is basically settling right to where it began - An 'Archive' pouring an essentially dead franchise. In a way its fitting and proper. Yeah the lack of activity is sad but there love is still here I think.

Having said that I too am here, after a fashion. And shall be. Given I'll soon be 35 and I've spent over 2 decades of those three and half in my life (give or a take a couple periods of time I fell off the face of the earth, lol) on this place you know I'll be with this joint 'til the end which I hope for this place, as I do with the world and life itself will be quite a while yet. This place has been my first internet home as well as a community to discuss something I've cherished all my life and well I'm glad to see it endure even as the online version of a man quietly enjoying retirement smiling fondly at past glorys and fun moments and some downright kooky spots, content with what has been accomplished yet wondering and maybe just maybe itching for some sort of comeback. We shall see. But more importantly we shall be here. :)

I think a lot of members are ghosts long-term. I can admit to viewing as a guest many more times than not. I tend to talk RoboCop on Facebook too.

There's a greater interactive level to it. Happy that we have a RA facebook as well as the Communications page. And I think those have been successful enough. With so much of my attentions focused on FB, I forget to come here. Mostly due to the nature of this forum. I can't host any images here.

Differing opinions aside, facebook had made it too easy to keep going back there. One didn't have to force themselves to partially learn "code" to interact.

Maybe, what I'm saying is, We are over the hill. We might have to rethink how the RoboCop Archive moves forward. As was said, maybe we should revolutinoalize the site altogether. Focus more on the content and collect all the external sites into one location. And effectively "archive" the best, most informative content.

An idea I had would be to create products and a store. Video content and subscription based content. Do Podcasts, and interviews. During the Sunday Facebook Messenger meetings (10am Eastern US), we want to set up a meeting where we all play the VHS Boardgame.

We are still working on more video content in the future. We are excited for what's in store.

There are a lot of talented members on the Archive. Let's use those talents. Give back what we got.

So, I'll try to make coming back to the forums more of a priority.

Glad you're still around! I guess I always pictured you out there pounding nerds.

I am happy it's still here too. Deep inside, I think a piece of me would die if not for the forums still being here.

At least the remake fuss died down. A large reason why I laid low was to avoid having to interact with all the newbies who just want to talk Rubbercop.

At least there have been many contributions to the board. So, it couldn't have been all bad.

I think a large portion of us can understand not being able to fit everything inside of a day. Being an adult is fuckin exhausting.

Well, Guys, I'm glad everybody still lingers. But I have made a small pledge to visit back here 3-4 times a week... even if I can't host images and feel less than inclined to use code. (I remember there's buttons)

I know this has most likely been discussed before, but I’ve been thinking about Jones’ gun. I’m mean, the Old Man was okay with Dick leaving it there in the boardroom, in a case out in the open? No lock or keypad, palm or thumb print to open it. It was accessible to anyone. I was thinking that if they had a disgruntled employee that wanted to shoot up the place, he could just grab it and go nuts. Or, like in R3 when the depressed OCP employee jumped out of the window. He could take the gun and shoot himself.

This is also one of the first forums I joined from back in the noughties and is the only one that is still around. As mentioned earlier, Facebook has supplanted message boards, but even FB is now shit, yet other Social Media just doesn't have as much thoughtful engagement. Also, many of us are oooold now, without much energy to engage online.

It’s really up to the admins - but I bet there’s a lot of fb users that would be more than happy to leave.
One of the advantages of a forum like this is that it feels more friendly. It encourages discussion, and (unless something’s changed) you don’t need to scroll past a spam post or ad (I usually see all my group posts on my timeline, so even if a group page is private, I still have to endure fb crap).

You know how movies are finally getting sequels such as Top Gun, Coming to America, and Beetlejuice—I started thinking what it would be like if Robocop 2 was coming out now? What would you have wanted to see in it? Make it like Corporate Wars or make it like the Robocop 2 we got in 1990; or a completely new storyline?

I can see the "Corporate Wars" approach working, as we'd have a real-life time jump as well. The concept of Robo having become obsolete and then being needed once again isn't really new to the franchise (Alpha Commando, PD and even some of the comics have dabbled with it), but I can see it working as a way to get a legacy sequel done. Not that I think they'd do it, but still...
