First crowdfunded in 2011, now a decade later Detroit's RoboCop statue is finally complete. But it is still awaiting a final place to stand so the journey is far from over.

New update and a decent article going over this whole thing for the past decade -

Well, that article was very in depth. It covered the entire history of the project, only forgetting one important detail: when they will actually finish the damn thing. It's been increasingly frustrating seeing this project talked about so glowingly when is has been much more of a disappointing process in reality. Yes, the statue itself looks great... from the photos we can see. But it has been a decade, so to see these articles patting the creators on the back while they people who actually funded it still cannot see it after a decade just feels a bit off.

I am reminded of literally every baking competition show ever. You don't have to watch more than a couple episodes of one of those shows to see what I am talking about. Someone creates a beautiful and ambitious cake that is undeniably impressive. Then the whole thing falls apart when they try to deliver it to its destination. Those moments show that creating something awesome doesn't count for much if you can't deliver it to the customer who paid for it. Quite frankly, nobody gives a shit how good the statue has looked in some dude's shop for the past 3 years.

I am also reminded of how the Robodoc crew did new audio commentaries for the latest Blu-Ray releases for the trilogy... and its been a few years and they still haven't delivered. So it seems a case of rewarding/accrediting people based on what they claim will happen, not what they have actually done. We live in an age of kickstarters, so I guess that is the new norm. After all, the success of a kickstarter project is almost always judged based on how much money it raises, not the final product. So on paper this statue and the RoboDoc have been huge successes, and yet the people who made them so successful still have nothing to show for their good faith and financial support, a decade later. So yeah you can write a long essay about how Michigan is the STEM center of the world and how the RoboCop statue is something that will inspire people for generations to come. I'll hold my praise until the project is finished.

Seeing as they haven't a solid place to put it yet makes me think there's a few twists and delays on this thing left.

I’ve been waiting for a decade for this to be finished. I have faith I faith I have faith. They should place in Dallas though. It’ll last longer.
