Well, it seems it´s "official https://variety.com/2024/tv/news/robocop-tv-series-amazon-peter-ocko-showrunner-james-wan-1236155752/
I have mixed feelings.
Variety : | “A giant tech conglomerate collaborates with the local police department to introduce a technologically advanced enforcer to combat rising crime — a police officer who’s part man, part machine.” |
The description is so vague it makes me afraid of it. No sign of OCP, Detroit on Murphy on that logline. A new "RoboCop" series, done right, would be amazing, so I hope they won´t follow the steps of the 2014 reboot, changing almost everything and messing with the original design way too much.

The description does feel like it's just there for the sake of being there and is being kept vague on purpose, because they haven't hammered out the details. But if it IS any true indication, I can quite easily see it being spun off into something that fits the "RoboCop" name, but not the character and setting as we know them. _________________ Anything you post can be used against you!

I hope that´s the case. But it feels off they didn´t mention even OCP or Detroit.

That´s the thing that scares me. I still think a RoboCop series, living in the streaming world we´re in, could have many chances to be good. Violence isn´t an issue anymore (didn´t see "The Boys", but I know they´re not shy with gruesome stuff, and it´s an Amazon product as well), you could play with the episode´s lenght, and storywise you have time to develop an arc. In the sequels they tried to put everything they could and things didn´t go well, because they have to fit into a 2 hour film. Here we could have more than 12 hours if they want, time to showcase the characters, their motivations and how their acts influence on the plot.
I hope they´ll pay more attention of "RoboCop Returns"´s reception, with Blomkamp´s idea of reusing the original design and such, instead of "let´s do whatever we want because nobody recognizes the character".

I can see them taking maybe 1 or 2 episodes to build up the corruption and the criminal life community. Getting to know who Alex Murphy was, his family life. Breaking in a new partner, learning the ropes of how a corrupt city run by a corporation operates. Then by episode two or three we end up seeing signs of what they're working on in terms of replacing police officers with cyborgs or the development of cyborg technology every few scenes until episodes 3 of a 10 episode where the robocop program is revealed. Could be a very dark series.
