Well, it seems it´s "official https://variety.com/2024/tv/news/robocop-tv-series-amazon-peter-ocko-showrunner-james-wan-1236155752/
I have mixed feelings.
| Variety : | | “A giant tech conglomerate collaborates with the local police department to introduce a technologically advanced enforcer to combat rising crime — a police officer who’s part man, part machine.” |
The description is so vague it makes me afraid of it. No sign of OCP, Detroit on Murphy on that logline. A new "RoboCop" series, done right, would be amazing, so I hope they won´t follow the steps of the 2014 reboot, changing almost everything and messing with the original design way too much.

The description does feel like it's just there for the sake of being there and is being kept vague on purpose, because they haven't hammered out the details. But if it IS any true indication, I can quite easily see it being spun off into something that fits the "RoboCop" name, but not the character and setting as we know them. _________________ Anything you post can be used against you!

I hope that´s the case. But it feels off they didn´t mention even OCP or Detroit.

That´s the thing that scares me. I still think a RoboCop series, living in the streaming world we´re in, could have many chances to be good. Violence isn´t an issue anymore (didn´t see "The Boys", but I know they´re not shy with gruesome stuff, and it´s an Amazon product as well), you could play with the episode´s lenght, and storywise you have time to develop an arc. In the sequels they tried to put everything they could and things didn´t go well, because they have to fit into a 2 hour film. Here we could have more than 12 hours if they want, time to showcase the characters, their motivations and how their acts influence on the plot.
I hope they´ll pay more attention of "RoboCop Returns"´s reception, with Blomkamp´s idea of reusing the original design and such, instead of "let´s do whatever we want because nobody recognizes the character".

I can see them taking maybe 1 or 2 episodes to build up the corruption and the criminal life community. Getting to know who Alex Murphy was, his family life. Breaking in a new partner, learning the ropes of how a corrupt city run by a corporation operates. Then by episode two or three we end up seeing signs of what they're working on in terms of replacing police officers with cyborgs or the development of cyborg technology every few scenes until episodes 3 of a 10 episode where the robocop program is revealed. Could be a very dark series.

It's a shame it reads like a new adaptation of the original film, but I guess that's the way things go these days.
Rogue City will have to do when it comes to some form of sequel, although I'm intrigued to see if they'll keep the original design. I know it'll likely be CGI or an amalgamation of that and practical, but it's always interesting to see how they'll go about it.
It makes me think of RoboCop 2. For those who were lucky enough to be about when the original was released, it must have been something to not only see the new suit in the sequel looking like "a damned show car", but also being blue.

I´ve been seeing that news from thousands of different accounts in the last days, but I thought I read last week that RoboCop was still in "development hell". Anyway, I´ll believe something when we´ll find a paparazzi pic of them filming it, or a teaser, or a promotional picture.

Don´t count on it, chum!
Sorry. Had to say that. I´d love a new adaptation that respects the history and character, but let´s face it: I doubt they´d make him slow and I doubt they´ll make him run on DOS with these scanlines as his vision. I´d LOVE to see something like the newer videogames, opting for a "retrofuturistic" look like the newer Blade Runner, where they still put Atari and low quality machinery in the middle instead of ultra-modern, "Minority Report" crystal tactil screens and over the top stuff. So, I don´t think they´ll want to recreate the original suit.
That being said, the original suit had space for upgrades. The fiberglass parts are fine, but the black spots could be upgraded with new materials. When you see any Robo production in HD you can spot scratches all over the gloves, and sometimes they look rubbery because... well, they were made that way. I´m sure right now they could redo the hands to make them feel like rigid metal, or tweak the visuals with CGI to make them look that way. That´d be cool.

Problem here is that RoboCop is almost 40 and newer generations don´t have idea about the character. If I was the guy behind this new project, I´d start with good old Robo and give some kind of backstory linked to his past, so you could show stuff that would explain his backstory without having to redo everything one more time. Think of the videogames, The Series or Prime Directives, where they tried to link some new elements to his past, so you can show via flashbacks snippets from his past.
I´m not a big fan of explaining again his life, or even worse...

Spending too much time with human Murphy. Again, it´s fine on flashbacks, but I can see them working like the Netflix Daredevil show: showing the "final form" of the character in the last episode of the season!
But the description of the show is so vage that there´s a chance we won´t have a Murphy to start with. Which would be sad. At the other hand, sounds so risky to make me interested. What if they do something that extreme that shows a corporation that builts RoboCops?
I´m afraid the end result would be something like RebootCop but with blood this time. I guess Murph´s time as a slow, cool looking cyborg is over

A guess is that the show will be heavily flashback oriented. Like they did with the Arrow tv series.
50% of the episode will be scenes with Alex Murphy, and people from his past will then show up in present time with RoboCop.
They kind of did that for the RoboCop: The series "Tin Man" episode.
