Personally, I'm going to echo the general consensus of disappointment with the decision. The decision is either very brave, or very stupid.
You can line up 100 people of different gender, backgrounds and interests/lifestyles and show them the Robocop suit; the majority will know who it is. You can still call the movie Robocop, but without that iconic suit, you may as well start with a fresh name as well. I understand wanting to give the movie a fresh appeal, and a certain distance from the original and sequels, but there are better ways to achieve that goal. I would prefer a slight alteration to suit, but a completely different design seems a step too far. I know it isn't as successful a franchise as other heroes with costumes, but would the next Batman movie benefit from a suit design that was completely different to anything seen before on TV, film or comic?
An interesting train of thought would be if anyone knew of any series/character revamps which involved a complete redesign of the look of the main character where the newer design achieved a greater level of success than the original?

When I remember me correct, the newest Star Trek Movie runs very good in Cinemas.

Yes, but it wasn't a total departure from the design.
The only thing that I can think of where things actually went well (AND A BIG SUPRISE TO ME) were the CYLONS in the new BSG Series.
I honestly didn't like the "human-cylons"...but the public likes it...whatever....sigh...

Hi im a new member but been reading actively on/off since year 2000. Born 1987 and saw Robocop for the first time in 1990 from a VHS recording my father had made. I watched Robocop all day out over and over during the summers from the time i woke up to the time i got to bed. Then i saw Robocop 2 and loved it. I loved how the made the intro. And then when Robocop 3 came i was in robo heaven. He was my big idol.
I dont get it. Why does people say Robocop 3 sucked? It was awsome. At the time when i was a kid i didnt care much about details but god damn it is well done. Robert Burke made a fantastic job in that suit. Robocop 3 had all the typical robocop elements, the music, the mod and feeling, settings etc. As for the flight pack, it was awsome and well made. They introduced it early in the movie but Robocop only used it once in a desperate situation. In my opinion everything about Robocop 3 where awsome and had true Robocop feeling. It even had a bum Leon bugging sgt Reed at the police station.
Today i still watch sequences from the original Robocop from my ipad every day to boost my Robocop need.
I registered here after all these years just to say that i am fking dissapointed about this new human like look. I get it that the old slow bulky robocop probably wouldnt get many hits in the big cinema. I was really looking forward to this as i really liked kinnamans look for Robocop and my friend laughed at me when Robocop reboot was cancelled for for a while. I dont own any collectibles but believe me i am a number 1 fan/ fanboy / fanatic/ lunatic- whatever. I love everything that has ANYTHING to do with Robocop. But this is just dissapointing.
Im still gonna watch it, i still hope they make it. I look forward to it. But was hoping more for a semi CG type updated version of Robocop suitable for modern theaters.
Thats my two cents about that.
I know this is wrong forum, Im probably not gonna write here any more as i enjoy reading. But i just want to give creds to the guy who sculpts that fantastic absolutly AMAZING Robocop suit. HANDS DOWN that is the most jaw dropping-mind blowing thing ive seen since the original movie. I cant even magine how hard that must be. Do you even have plans or prints from the original suit? The level of detail and precision looks better than in the movies. You are the KING. Keep it up and hope you get to finish all parts.
Stay out of trouble!

Hey Dirty80s. Glad you decided to post your thoughts.
RoboCop3 is a big topic for sure, and if you want to delve into it more and know our opinions on it, check out this topic:

As for the Superman reborn story. Crazy tale. Love it for it's absurdity, and Kevin Smith rocks. And yes, the whole "no suit for Superman" and "I don't want to see him fly" feels pretty close to the current RoboCop situation.
Since they are starting fresh chances are nothing of what we consider synonymous with the character, such as the gun, leg holster and the suit in general, will appear in the reboot. It won't be RoboCop at all which is just madness. I mean we can laugh at the "Superman reborn" story NOW, but back then it was dead serious. And stuff like this is still going on with the now ALIEN turtles and our beloved now HUMAN RoboCop.

thing is I wouldn't have been completely against the idea of superman not being able to fly since in the original comics he couldn't. But at least its based on something from the lore.
So I wouldn't mind if the reboot of robocop had changes we aren't accustomed to as long as its based on possibly an original draft or something connecting to the orginal story that we might have seen created before.
but these changes out of the blue just seem like changes just for the sake of putting their stink on it.

I'd want to see Peter Weller sharing his thoughts about the remake.

The Q&A session ended with a question about the upcoming remake of Robocop, which is currently in preproduction, will be directed by Brazilian director Jose Padilha and will star Joel Kinnaman (“The Killing”) as RoboCop.
“Foreign filmmakers look at American culture from an anthropological perspective, so it could be good,” Miner said. But Weller disagreed, saying he didn’t think a remake could ever measure up to the original. “Can they get the human story that this film had? I don’t think so.”
Will the "RoboCop" remake rule?: "I don't think so."
