| WeKilledYou : | | I was dissapointed to learn what the jockeys actually looked like. They were not all that impressive visually once the helmet came off. Also, the very very brief exchange at the end was pretty damn stupid. For being these brilliant "engineers" who have created and done so many things, they sure didn't act the part. He gets woke up and asked a few questions, then like a body builder experiencing over the top mind bending roid rage, he just freaks out like a psychotic lunatic and tries to kill everything and anyone in sight. |
I think the let down here was intentional. The Space Jockey was the great big mystery, and it could have been anything. Then when we learned they are the origin of our species we, like the scientists, have all these questions and want grand answers for these massive mysteries. In the end they are not very much different for us, which is hard for us and the characters in the film to deal with the fact that they are nothing all that special. In the expedition it turns out that the identity of our creators was to take a back seat to their cargo.
And that's just the thing about why the 'Engineer' bugs out. I really don't think the ones they encounter are supposed to be of the caliber of the ones that created humans. What the crew of Prometheus encountered were soldiers on a mission...they had no time for the deep analytical thinking to have the knowledge the humans were pursuing. I think the point of the scene here was to show how similar, in being violent and aggressive and not philosophical like they expected, to the species they created.
Plus, we have no idea what David said to that Engineer. Looking back on David's character it doesn't seem out of line for him to have suggested to the Engineer that the humans were there to kill them or something like that. This is definitely the kind of movie you'll have to watch a few times to see everything, which I feel is what puts it on par with the other Alien movies. I still want to know what the deal was with the opening scene, who that first Engineer was and why exactly he committed suicide... _________________

Well said. Especially on the idea about not knowing what David said. Also, just maybe he wasn't able to fully understand or be able to speak the language perfectly. Just imagine if he said the wrong thing by mistake.
I too would like to know more about the opening scene, although I like that it was left unexplained for the time being.
I also thought it was interesting with all the careful planning and precautions Weyland took to get himself there and in that situation. Only to be killed right away. Kind of silly and ironic.

The Outlaw Josey Wales.
I liked the scenes with Eastwood as well as the ones with horses and shooting. Oh, and when any tobacco was spat.
And for some reason I thought Sondra Locke looked strangely fine in this movie.

I mostly agree with you there Vegas.
I wouldn't quite give it a ten. I didn't like the ending too much and although Catwoman was played very well the film would have been no different if she wasn't in it.
Bane's a fucking beast though.

A brilliant take on Bane by Tom Hardy!.....First time a film has suprised me in years I had totally written this off as being something of a bad film during te past 6 months i don'y know why it just had that stink on it for me..Plus pretty tough to go 3 for 3 that dosen't happen very often with such strongly revered films..It bothers me when I see reviews of this movie were it's quite obvious that the critic did'nt watch the movie or at the very least maybe just raced trough a critics reel of the film..Even before the Colorado tragedy reviews I had read did'nt hold up as truth upon seeing the film,One local critic lambasted the film for a scene after the police are trapped underground were Banes army murders them all I was shocked that a professional critic "Josh Bell" would fabricate a story like that but hey it is 2012 and most people are full of shit nowadays...

Oh yes.
I like the way he spoke during the film, it was different from what you would think he should sound like. He sounds calm, collected and in control. And when he fights Batman he is literally Batman 2.0. Faster, stronger and more knowledgeable.
The other night I watched Bronson again (spurred on by Hardy's performance as Bane of course). You might well like it Vegas, that is if you haven't already seen it.

I saw "The Dark Knight Rises" as well on the Bulgarian Premiere.
It was brutal, it was epic, it was even touching (I could feal a tear going down my face during the ending)... It was all I could've hoped for!
Bane was great, though I wasn't quite thrilled with the way they ended him, but still, Hardy's performance was terrific.
Catwoman I enjoyed quite a bit as well. The thing about Tate - I was sure about it for months.
Overall, I absolutely loved it! _________________

I saw The Dark Knight Rises. Most people I've heard say the movie is boring until the last part. I quite felt the contrary, the first hour was pretty good.
I was punched by some similarities with RoboCop 3 (you heard it right!). I mean all that Policemen battle in the streets, Batman appearing as an hero with the Batplane just like Robo with the jetpack.
Put that in a cocktail with "Escape from New York", "The Ninja Turtles" (the 1990 one, Bane is Schreder with his underground Foot Clan!), some "Fight Club" and obviously "The Dark Knight"... et voilą! _________________

I loved TDKR... It has been a long time since I've walked out of a theater with a smile. I did enjoy The Avengers, but it didn't hit me like TDKR. There's a new Holy Trinity... and it's Batman.

Battlefield Earth. Despite the extreme negativity surrounding it I found it rather enjoyable. After seeing a Scientology commercial on Hulu I did some research about L Ron Hubbard, which led me to watching Battlefield Earth on Netflix. I like it in the same way I like a cheesy 80's sci-fi flick (Not an A-List one like the Aliens and Predator movies, and that one about the dude who dies and gets thrown in a tin can, can't remember the name.) I rather enjoyed how unflinchingly over-stylized it was, which made it a unique, exciting experience with a lot of positive qualities that at least equal the flaws. I'm glad I finally got a chance to see this infamous flick, and I think i would have really dug it if I had seen it when it came out and I was a little younger. _________________

Cabin In The Woods.
One of the worst films I have seen in recent years. It is so fucking shit I'm not even going to justify my opinion.
Just go watch The Evil Dead or The Evil Dead II.

Super happy fun double post time!
I watched The Expendables 2 and I loved it. It was better than the first because while the original had a serious tone, the sequel was more lighthearted with jokes about the casts previous films.
I had the biggest shit eating grin on my face the whole way through. If you are looking for a complex and thoughtful story, laced with in depth character development go somewhere else. If however you are looking for what is essentially an 80's film in 2012 then this is for you.
