So after the first sketchy illustration (http://robocoparchive.com/board/viewtopic.php?t=2908), I decided to keep going as you guys encouraged me to do (Smile). For whatever reason, since the first was near the beginning of the film, I wanted to create one from near the ending.

Now, the "Murphy" image (where the Old Man says, "Nice shooting, son. What's your name?" and Robo replies) has already gotten a bit of a spread, so while this was the scene I wanted to capture, I wanted something slightly different. Here, Robocop is still prevented from taking care of Dick Jones because of Directive 4. Dick has just grabbed the Old Man and shouted his hostage demands. Briefly, we see Robo reacting to Dick. There's a bit of surprise, but the determination in his face is overriding that. I've always really enjoyed this brief instant, for that expression on Robo's face as well as the whole scene composition. I'm sure some of you can empathize with me here, as Peter Weller's face is one of the most important elements in Robocop to me.

Anyways, here it is:

You'll notice quite a bit of difference in style between this one and the first one. I spent a little more time on this one, and of particular notice this one isn't just the bold blacks, but I went with more grays with the pencil shading. Also, I added the red monitors in Photoshop as well. The OCP logo is a separate illustration, and I wanted it precisely the same in all screens, so it was simply duplicated and scaled for each screen.

Thanks for looking!

That is bloody brilliant.

I love the way only the monitors are red because I get this sort of Nazi imagery which is the reason the OCP logo was like it was in RoboCop 2.

Make sure you throw some more of your work our way. Also, are there any higher resolution versions because I'd love to use them as a background on my PS3?

Thanks so much, Josh!

The monitors are key as to why I really enjoy this brief shot so much. Even the end "Murphy" response shot isn't as striking to me (which is another reason I chose this shot instead). As we all know, this movie is just full of these shots and scenes that convey all sorts of imagery like this one (and as you noted in part 2).

I'm hoping I can do about one of the a week or so. I'll certainly share what I end up creating Smile

What's your monitor resolution? Let me know, and I'll see about making you an appropriately-sized wallpaper Smile

It would be for my PS3.

I'm guessing 1080x1020 because it's just a bog standard HDTV. As long as it's a decent size I ain't fussed.

This is a great piece of work. While I enjoyed your previous sketch this is a complete composition and the attention to detail really shows. You're work on Robocop's body is some of the best I've seen; he relly looks beat to all hell and you got the proportions down perfect. The face is well done too, and you nailed the expression. I like you're inspiration to use this shot instead of the more famous one that comes a minute later, it does give it this different feel which is powerfully represented here. The stylized red OCP logo on the screens is what ties the whole image together and makes it stand out. It makes it so it's not just a drawing of Robo, but a unique creation which I wholeheartedly support.

You must make more. You must not stop.

This is insanely nice. The red of the monitors pops perfectly. I also love the attention to shading. Great work.

Wow, thanks a lot! I spent a lot of time trying to get the face just right. It's still not exactly where I want it, but I'm happy with everything overall (espeically with this being a 2 hour or so sketch). Also, while I do want to end up tackling some of the "iconic" shots, I did want to tackle this one in such a way that didn't have me glossing over just because I'd seen it a dozen times - I had to have something fresh. Even compositionally, I like this one just a bit more, if for nothing else because of the cage-like image the monitors end up making with the OCP logo. I was also glad this one took a life all its own as well. I think that's very representative of this scene in particular and especially about who Robocop is.

I do plan to make more, and I'll share them with you guys when I get 'em Smile

Thanks a lot! I'm really happy in particular with the shading on the face. While I did employ a smearing technique I often use when I pencil, I really wanted to push it more with the hatching in the face. I had a lot of fun with that!

I almost colored this piece entirely, but I didn't want to bog myself down with it right now and I really wanted that red to shine through like a wall of bloodshed from the Nazi-like force of OCP. I just couldn't get that image out of my head, so I went with it. At first, I was a bit put off by how much Robo gets sucked in to this background, but I really stated to enjoy that push and pull of the foreground and background.

Thanks again so very much for your comments and interaction, gang; it's very much appreciated!
