When I was younger I liked Robocop 2 the best, because it was more comic book like. I also enjoyed the cartoons a fair bit more then I do now. Over time I learned more about Robo and was able to respect the depth and art that Robocop 1 has.
I was wondering if anyone else had feelings like this, maybe they liked something and grew to not like it, or vica versa. Or have you pretty much had the same feelings about the stuff over time? _________________

When I was younger, I seen RoboCop 2 way more than the original. RoboCop 2 always seemed to be on TV and the original was hardly ever shown. But when I finally got the RoboCop VHS and seen it in it's entirety with all the edited footage intact, my opinion changed, and the original overtook the sequel. I know now that RoboCop is much better than RoboCop 2, but I hold both movies dear. They were my favourite movies when I was a young boy/teen, and they remain that way to this day.
RoboCop 3 however, I won't even begin to start on how much I seem to despise that movie more and more every time I bring myself to watch it. It's on TV here in Ireland next Tuesday night... I suppose I'll watch it again and find more reasons to hate it.
Anything else Robo related since the third movie I can't say I'm a big fan of. The 1994 TV series was ok in parts and I still watch them on DVD now and again, but PD was an abomination and should never have seen the light of day. I still hope, one day, that someone, somewhere will make a RoboCop movie that will restore the franchise to the greatness of the original, and not bastardise it like everyone else who has touched it since. I live in hope... and probably in vain for that to happen.

i remember that when i was 12 or so , r2 came out , and i loved it then , but as i get older and look back at it , the only robocop movie that really is worth it's weight in salt is r-1.
r3 has always sucked. And the TV shows never do very well, i mean , c'mon , who the fark is John murphy? gimme a break , it's like the wirters of the tv shows never even read the movie script!

The same goes for me, I also watched R#2 first, and after the years the R#1 had changed my opinion.

Well I'll add to this topic.
I was over at my grandparents in the very early 90's (93 - 94) and they were televising Robocop 1 on TV. I only saw it very briefly and was upset that I had missed most of it.
Robocop 2 was on the night after, so they taped that for me.
I saw Robocop 2 (edited for TV) later on, on the next visit. However, being young, I usually only enjoyed the comic book action scenes (Robo VS Cain was my favourite).
Then Robocop 1 was on (very heavily edited - I can count up to 80 instances of cuts now that I've seen it all), and I enjoyed that, but found it "dirtier" than the movie of Robocop 2 (gritty is the term I'd use now, gritty and less technologically streamlined).
However, I could watch all the scenes of Robocop 1 and never really favored any of the scenes over another. I enjoyed it all.
Robo the series came on TV, and again, my grandparents taped a few of the early episodes for me. I enjoyed them, but didn't like them nearly as much as the movies, since they were free of violence, and I thought Richard Eden didn't look as good in the suit as Peter Weller.
I will admit though, I did like Yvette Nipar as Madigan, even though I couldn't figure out how Lewis fits into the story with Madigan as Robo's partner.
I never watched Robocop 3 till the early 00's (2002). Then when they showed Robo's memory of his death in 3, I noticed that it was quite different from my TV edit.
In my Robocop 1 off the TV, we didn't see Murph's hand or arm get blown off (even though it was the R version, not the rare and special TV version). It was also weird, because Clarence didn't finish Murphy off in my version.
After we saw from Lewis P.O.V. it cut straight to "Goodnight Sweet Prince" and the gang leaving. So I just assumed that the gang killed him, and Clarence took the rap on his sheet because he was the leader.
So I set out to find a copy of the video/DVD and found it to be quite different to what I was used to. That's when I realised that it wasn't as comic booky as I first saw, but much deeper and far more haunting being "Robocop" and fighting against the machine.
That's when I loved Robocop 1 the most.
So yes, it has changed for me. _________________

My opinion has not changed about Robocop, but I have done a bit of growing concerning the sequels. I have gotten over Robocop 2's super coolness and embraced that it is a very flawed (but still very entertaining) film. Also Robocop 3 has grown n me a great deal and it is not the complete crapfest that I labeled it as in the beginning. Thats not to say that its great, but it is a decent film. Still though, with each sequel the quality of our franchise went down, so I now know in my heart that Robocop is an infinitely better film than Robocop II. _________________

Robocop, will always be one of my favorites, so no nothing has changed there.
Robocop 2, I always thought was a weak movie, and fun to watch despite that alotve the time murphy was too stiff, but I liked the action. Robocop vs Cain fight still holds up I think despite stop motion being too clay-like. Also I noticed some movies copy the elevator scene(T3 and AVPR LOL). Robocain's sound effects can be heard in Transformers, and the cassette decepticon, also has Robocop's communication spike thing. I think in Jurassic park, the raptor uses its sharp toe, in a manner similar to Cain.

Not really. I loved the first one and loved the second one, but was saddened there was no ED209 in it. That droid was my favorite bad guy. And I did like watching R3, but found it to be less cool than R1 and R2.
It's almost like my other obsession, Mad Max... The Road Warrior is actually... dare I say... Even cooler than the original... Beyond Thunderdome suffers heavily from the PG13 complex.

When I saw it first it was a movie about a robot who did loads of shooting, plenty of action. that was about it, I took it at face value as I think most people do, thats why its not commonly regarded as highly as it deserves.
Over time I have come to appreciate it as a satirical masterpiece, a real modern classic (although approaching just classic nowadays) Paul Verhoeven really set the bar high, the other films have not really got anywhere near but were entertaining in their own right.

My movie obsessions = short circuit, robocop, , transformers, terminator. i also hold total recall with pretty high regard (another veerhoven flick) but i like the johnny-cab. I pretty much will watch anything repeatedly if it stars a robot, cyborg, or android.I will also watch anything about the space preogram or civil war obsessively, and can talk early manned space missions or civil war anyday I also love zombie movies and muppet movies (which also stem from my love of robotics.i am into the animatronics mostly)

damn yeah .. and so typical character .. miss there .. in the first script by Miller there was a scene with him .( except the TV news ) but then ..
my first impression from robocop .. damn I had really fear of him and entire film I watched first film as 7 or 8 years old ..really I had also some nightmares with the Emils toxic scenes .. but god wanted so that I saw the film again and then I became a fan .. hmm when I was maybe 14 old I like mainly first two films on the same level . ..yeah when you are kid you need more of action .. but time ran .. and I realized the best is and probably always will be Robocop 1 ( at least for me ) yeah Paul is still king with a Robocop crown on head ..he got me with an action film he got me with the great atmosphere and interesting hero .. I can watch the film also 100 times but still it will be so good !
and I can to say I am mainlyR1-R2 mainly R1 fan .. as for R3 hmm no comment too much with the Weller went aways from the film also the Robocops magic .. no big action .. no blood ( robocop.. I had and still have this oppinion .. !
about all after R3 I watched it just for one reason .. there was Robocop .. although sometimes it was awkward .. mainly Alpha command.. while the Robocop series watched almost whole our school when I was at six class .. but when I see it now it just remind me again the school times ..
| Quote: | | and I thought Richard Eden didn't look as good in the suit as Peter Weller. |
yeah because he is a little smaller and smaller than Weller .. and the Robo suit looks a bit bigger and bulky on him that it ..
so from the my Robocop history .. R1 still the big favorit ! _________________

I too was horrified by the toxic scene, and some other scenes, and that's why i watched R2 more. It wasn't as bad. The only scene that got me was when they showed Cain's brain, but I don't know why. _________________

I have always preferred Robo 1 and each sequel and spin-off that has been released I have hated more.
But my opinion of Robo 1 did change. As I grew up I realised that the film had so many underlaying themes that are so representative of society as a whole, while also being an exaggerated version of it.
