Ummm, a new suit, pretty much talked myself into it now as soon as I finish my arcade cabinet project. There is a super hero convention here next year so gives me a good deadline. So far I am planning a Robo 1 screen suit, latex for the soft parts and resin coated foam for the armour. A lot of work but a fun build. Ive learned alot from my other builds so time to put it to use

lol the pizza boxes are brand new and unfortunatly didnt come with pizzas
cheif i too have built thngs similar in the past and am putting what i learnt into action with this build and it by far surpasses my other creations.
anyways the lower legs are done: (and look pretty damn good if i do say so myself! :P )
and this is all the leg parts together:
and i just HAD to try it on: (held on by an old belt, shoelaces, my hands, and a little luck)
(yes i know my socks are awesome!)
One of the reasons i just had to try it on was to see if the proportions were right and that i didnt look dumpy, and i dont
so the legs are pretty much done, so onto the feet next.
stay tuned!

Very nice.
It looks brilliant with you wearing it and seeing the pieces as intended, plus the details really stand out.
And I noticed you marked the legs left and right. How come?

| meathead316 : | | Zentron you should defo go the whole hog build a suit, every robo-fan needs to have his or her own suit to prance around the house with the curtains closed making robot noises |) (robo smiley ftw again) | Luv to, but a bit too fat now Though I think I could do the gloves!
Anywayz, loving the work you've done so far, some nice large pics would be great, so we can appreciate the art that has gone into them so far _________________

lol i labeled the calfs left and right because at a quick glance they are identicle, but they are not. and as the left one fits on the right leg i wouldnt wanna permenently fix them together only to realise that ive done it wrong!
the thighs however dont fit on either leg.
i would tke bigger pics but bigger pics take aaaaaages to upload, and besides, higher es means u can see all the flaws better! :P
zenron, what better motivation to lose a few pounds than looking totally awesome for halloween! robocop suit ftw!
anyways, im gonna get started on the feet in a minute and will put up some pics later tonight (11pm BST ish) hopefully ill have the basic jist of both feet done with some pistons too.
ciao

update time!
The feet have proved more troublesome that id expected, but id rather take my time and keep it as accurate as i can as it will payoff in the long run.
firstly i starter by making 1 leg piston (only one as i didnt have enough cardboard tube, must by more tin foil and baking paper as they have the different size tubes i need, no idea what ills do with all that foil and baking paper tho...)
I want to be able to dress myself unaided, and attachinch the leg pistons to the back of the calf and the foot will be next to impossible given the resticted range of movement so i cam up with a solution, have it permanently attached to the foot, and then the other end attaches to the calf like this:
teenie tiny (bet very strong) magents. i will use them for other parts of the suit aswell i think as i have loads of them left (bought 50 of em )
the feet are only half done... slacking i know, but hey at least BOTH are half done
NOTE the back of the heel is too long at the moment as the end bit is to be folded to hold the rear piece on.
they are looking pretty good me thinks, once they are 100% i will cut them in half so that i can walk properly ie bending my toes.
just placed a lower leg on top of the foot to give you and idea of how they will look, let me tell you, BEASTY! (modest i know )
So thats all for today, tomorrow im hoping to get the feet finished
The gloves will be quite tricky i imagine as hey have to be solid yet flexible, i did make one glove before and it was ok ish, but my new ones will be better as i have a few ideas floating around in my head and im sure at least 1 of them HAS to work! but before tht ive gotta finish the feet, do the upper arms, lower arms and the forearms, only then will i tackle the gloves so stay tuned!
ta ta for now. _________________

Having both feet half done amounts to having one foot completely done.
Hang on...

when you are all done are you going to brush the whole thing down with fiberglass resin to make it more perminant?

lol at josh's math skillz
isnt fibre glass resin expensive? toxic? and once dry very brittle and fragile?
i want my suit to be robust (and cheap) i was gonna go for the wrap it (neatly this time) in tape method. and if i get really wide tape there will be less join lines.
i already did this to the robo-abs i made, but i may change my mind...
any ways, these robo-toes aint gonna build them selves! _________________

you can get inexpensive resin at the local hardware store. as far as it being brittle, Yes. On its own it is fairly brittle. the fiberglass mat and lack of resin used gives a piece its strength. However, people use it all the time on cardboard buildups, mainly because it does make the board hard, and gives it some longevity. also better to paint. as far as toxic, sure, if you stick your head into a bucket of resin, or drink the catalyst, or do a layup in a small enclosed room, with no ventilation, but then what isn't toxic these days LOL. thinner more expensive resin works better for cardboards, so it can absorb easier. Tape sounds like just as much work, but it looks great either way. good luck with the build.

ill figure out finishing it when i come to it, probably will be tape as its very very cheap and wont make the parts any thicker and is mega strong while still remaining flexible ish, well not flexible as in bendy but flexible as in if hit it wont crack... man i suck at explaining stuff!
anyways, the robo-toes are done:
ignor the heel area, havent even started on it yet
its all still a very awkward fit, im hoping it will be rectified when i attach the lower leg to the upper leg at the knee and cut the foot in half so i can bend my toes.
thats all for today, tomorrow ill start on the heel area.
bye bye for now |) _________________

Gosh that leg sure it purty... The level of attention to detail on this project has made it so much more than 'just' a cardboard Robocop suit... To me it's becoming an actual Robo suit, simply made from a different medium. The title of this topic suggests a thought based on impulse, but the art is much deeper. _________________
