| ChickenStu : | And of course, she wanted to watch 2 and 3 after....
NOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!! |
Mamma mia .. Sorry, but you probably are the first person whom hatred against R2 is soo HUGE, more than my hatred to R3 damnit ! Well R2 has many mistakes like the typical second part but still it has worth to watch as the last film where Robocop was even a hero. I did not read everything what you wrote here .. oh I should before than I will give you next question but anyway if you dont like R2 no prob we take it. I would just be curious to see your rating for the sequels in the thread
| ChickenStu : | | Never seen Prime Directives, but I've seen a couple of episodes of the weekly series. Can't remember too much about that though, it was YEARS ago dude! |
Oh yeah I know you probably hate everything after R1 but you should go and get the Robocop PD and you will see what is true disaster and maybe you will change your opinions toward R2 a little bit because compared with the PD is the R2 really gem of the collection.
Is nice to know that your girls wanted to watch Robocop with you ( you be glad not all girls like such films and have interest about that ) and if they want to watch also, for example R2, what about ? at least you will hear their opinion.
I wanted to watch with my boyfriend R1, but I always said how much I hate R3 ( he got also little ban to watch R3 ) But before our festive watching of R1 he downloaded the R3 somewhere, watched it and then of course did jokes about the silly story, Robo and me .. uh

To all those who disagree with me disliking Robocop 2, I've explained why and that's it. Just boils down to a matter of personal taste. Simple.
What exactly is "Prime Directives" btw? Another TV show?

| MurphysGal : | | Even as a kid, I thought the rocket pack was deadset stupid |
I don't really have anything against the jet pack per se, but it bugs me that he only uses it to go from point A to point B rapidly, so they can quickly wrap up the movie.
Anything he shoots while using it, he could have shot just the same on the ground (unlike the DOS game where you actually shoot down several chopters). And it may be true that he couldn't escape the ginormous explosion without it... but one could just as well question why there is such an explosion. Two ninja robots =/= Mother Brain.

it never claimed to be a dumb spoof on robocop for kids, it actually claimed to go back to roots but with lower rating |
Someone actually stated that while making R3? Wow... that's just... wow.

Dekker managed to move as far away from the first one as possible, or as Neumeier said missed the point completely, and unfortunately influenced the TV show and the TV movies with its miscalculated portrayal of the movie. |
Eh, I think the tv series would have been pushed by the producers to have a low rating just as the movie was. They wanted a new Ninja Turtles and Dekker complied.
But I don't really see the TV movies as influenced by this. I mean yes, despite the increased level of violence, they are still cheesy, but that I'd blame mostly on lack of judgement.

Prime Directives is a 4-part TV-movie, based 10 years after the first RoboCop. I agree with Nika - if you hate R2 that much, I'm SURE as hell believe you will hate Prime Directives even MORE. So beware, mwahahaha.
Got nothin' against ya if you dislike R2. Big deal. R3 is pretty understandable though. I'm a big fan of the Series myself, but I'm sure not a lot will agree with me. But hey, we're still fans of the big man, right?
Say it with me... riiiight?

I'd say the series has it lows and... averages.
That's really the problem: when the series doesn't work because of the sillyness they'd sometimes cram in it (Commander Cash anyone?) it was really -really- bad. But when it did work it was... okay.
I don't remember ever being genuinely thrilled or excited at all when watching it. And I don't think it's because of the lack of violence either. There simply isn't enough pathos.
Which is probably why my favorite moment was when Murphy's father put the pieces together and they had their talk. That's the closest they ever got to it.

Wow, for someone who has seen each of the 3 movies countless times I would have to say there are some things in that article I never fully realised. The character of RocoCop was quite consistent in the first 2 movies, but the third... _________________
