Well..... can’t say I’m surprised always had the feeling they would fuck this up, the suit is such an integral part of the movie and character to change it will make it a different movie with the same name.
The problem is Robocop is an 80s movie with 80s styling, story, characters etc and no way a remake was going to capture that plus they will make it 15 or 12A certificate, cut the violence so kids can watch it. Come release day, if it ever does come, pop in your original Robocop, sit down and enjoy, come to think of it why don’t they just release Robocop in the cinemas, save a lot of hassle and I know which one I would rather see

I didn't saw any concept art, so I won't say anything about new RoboCop design.
Anyway, I have a feeling, that they will try do look him like cyborgs in GITS anime...

So, RoboCop remake/reboot is scheduled for release August 2013. Plenty of time to ensure a solid script written and put into production from its writers?? MGM say's NO!! New story is too weak and lack lustre for the iconic film group to even put it's name to the project. Hollywood is doing what it does best. It's taking an iconic classic in the sci-fi genre and playing the joker remake card into a F.U.B.A.R production!!!
And to make matters worse they want to make RoboCop more human!!! Apparently, gone is his visor and more of his face is visable!!! And less metal and more skin with no robotic movements???
Joel Kinnaman, even though a fan of the original has, in a round-a-bout way criticised P.W's iconic performance and his ability to portray the humanity of a man and the robotics of a machine in a recent news post!! He felt that only seeing Weller's mouth as his original human form and his robotic characterisation in movement was questionable and insignificant!!
P.W's performance, in all aspects of the original is faultless. A role he should be extremely proud of for the sheer talent, depth, realism portrayed and true profession to his craft. He encapsulated the character visually, vocally and made us believe he was solid as a rock!!!
Why remake a movie that does not need to be remade??? MONEY, MONEY and MONEY!!!! So, I say, go ahead Hollywood!!! Do what you do best. Rely on the C.G.I!! And script, director, lead role etc, etc, etc all go bye bye!!! 25 years have passed since the original and now a remake!! Must be desperate times in HW as they want to embark on a journey that needs not to be travelled!! As a true fan of the original I know I stand with the many and the masses far and wide upon this topic. If it ain't broke, don't fix it!!! And this one ain't broke!!!

what a bummer.
even with all this new movie technology, story-writers and directors of today are still so lapsed in imagination, that they cant be creative enough to bring what brought these franchises alive back to the screen.
welcome one and all, to my Transformers hell.
We have the technology, we have the ability. but it seems that has made todays directors lazy.
No one wants a challenge these days.

Making a robot look more human is essentially an easy way to save time and money. It is like that recent movie "darkest hour" where the alien invaders where invisible. Genius!

So here's your new Robocop folks:
I'm not ruling the film out yet. It could be great, but they can get to fuck using the Robocop name on it.
It pisses me off how little grasp of the franchise appeal either MGM or the swing gate directors and producers have. Why is Robocop constantly viewed as the poor relation in the film world. They wouldn't get away with dropping the iconic look of Terminator, Batman, Superman, Spiderman, and hell, even Universal Soldier constantly features the eye cover design.
Why then does every director or producer think they can just treat the staples of the Robocop franchise as disposable fluff? What is the point of rebooting the franchise if the main character is going to be unrecognisable from the first films.
I mean just look at the Robocop 1 cover. Robocop looks boss, that's where any reboot script should begin. We knew the suit would need to be modernised in some areas, but 'synthetic skin' in place of that hulking titanium shell... go eat a bucket of shit.
If they want to make Deus Ex the movie, then great, I'm all in. But don't call it Robocop, when it's clear you couldn't give half a shit about the franchise legacy.
I'll doubtless go and see the film on release, and who knows, maybe if we can make enough noise about it we can get them to make the final design more reflective of the original, but this constant belittlement of the franchise as just a name which directors, producers and actors can earn their 'oh look, I can handle big action films too' badge with, is really pissing me off.
Either show the franchise staples some respect or go produce an original film, which doesn't carry with it a set of perfectly reasonable expectations from long time fans.

Good text above me.
The funny thing is that irvin kershner had the same plans in mind for ROBOCOP 2, completely make a different suit (i forgot what he said about that, any dudes here who can remember his talk about the suit changes in ROBOCOP 2 he wanted to do?
There's also something odd going on with the name:Padilha said in an interview that his name Stays Alex Murphy he won't change that but the iconic suit is gone.
i don't get it.
read this text below it's very interesting!!!!!
http://www.filmschoolrejects.com/news/jose-padilha-darren-aronofsky-script-robocop-remake-nadam.php
| Quote: | Ever since Brazilian director Jose Padilha was confirmed to direct MGM’s long-gestating Robocop reboot, there has been the lingering question as to what would happen to all of the work the original director, Darren Aronofsky, put into the project. Aronofsky was all set to take on Robocop, and had even written a script, but some looming bankruptcy problems with MGM and an otherwise full schedule for Aronofsky put the kibosh on all of that.
Well, Crave recently sat down with Padilha to talk about his upcoming Elite Squad 2, and eventually steered the conversation toward the subject of Robocop. When asked about the Aronofsky script, Padilha said, “I haven’t read Aronofsky’s script. Aronofsky is a great director. I love his films. I am very proud because I saw Pi in the opening Sundance screening and I loved it. So Aronofsky’s great. I have my own take on Robocop. I know what his take was and it’s totally different. It’s a different thing, different kind of film, even different period in time so I haven’t read his previous work.” On one hand, that’s kind of disappointing, I would have loved to have seen what a major director like Aronofsky envisioned for this project. On the other hand, I’m much happier about a filmmaker who is enthusiastic about his own vision taking over Robocop rather than having a utility player come in, just pick up the pieces, and do whatever the studio wants.
As Padilha went on to talk about his approach to Robocop a bit more, even I started to get kind of excited for what he has planned. For one thing, when asked whether or not his Robocop would still be Alex Murphy, Padilha replied, “Alex Murphy is Alex Murphy, man. You can’t call Batman some other name. Bruce Wayne is Bruce Wayne, Clark Kent is Clark Kent, Alex Murphy is Alex Murphy.” It’s nice to see that he has some strong feelings about the property and is going to try to do the original justice.
Also, when asked about what he’s going to do now that he has a big Hollywood budget to work with he replied, “Spend it. [Laughs] Listen, I always try to make the best film I can. If I can have one year to shoot a film, I want one year to shoot a film. If it’s not possible, I’ll try to make as best as I can in the timeframe that I have.” He continued, “Once you give me the budget, whatever the budget is, the most important thing to me is that the money spent goes towards the screen. That’s what counts.” I couldn’t agree more. Let’s put all of that money toward huge robots, huge explosions, and millions of blood squibs.
Perhaps an Aronofsky-less Robocop won’t be such a drag after all? |

In 1927, Fritz Lang gave us Metropolis. An Sci-Fi masterpiece which depicted a future metropolis with flying cars, Sky Scrapers that touched space and a Cybernetic robot called Rachel. In 1987, sixty years after Metropolis, P.V. gave us RoboCop. Again, an icon movie and one where the writers of RoboCop had not only been inspired by Lang's creation but they loosely followed his visions of the future. Rob Bottin who created the RoboCop suit drew subtle similarities and ideas from Rachels robotic design. I guess it would be fair to say that Bottin's creation is ultra modern and super sleek. A product of the future.
So, in 2013 RoboCop shall return and be set in a future dated 2047. 2047? Even though we are not told what time period the original was set in, we know it is one possible future. My point is that sixty years after Metropolis in 1927 came RoboCop. Now the remake will be set sixty years after the 1987 original release!!! Maybe coincidence?? Or maybe not??
In the 2013 remake, their have been rumours that RoboCop's design will be totally different from the original. In fact, gone is the visor, armour and any robotic movement. In it's place is a more human looking cyborg with no visual metallic structure. Skin over a metal endo skeleton!! No need to explain further as you I'm sure know where I am going.
Maybe HollyWood is not only remaking RoboCop but aspects of Ridley Scott's 1981 classic Blade Runner?? Firstly, B.R. should never be remade or replicated but we, as the viewers believed Replicant's were cyborgs that looked human in every way. Cyber machines under human skin. But that was back in 1981. Now in 2012 the genera has been well and truly been covered. Even their are strong links to Mary Shelley's Frankenstein.
To finish, RoboCop (original) will and always stand high and proud as a true Sci-Fi masterpiece. HollyWood will do what is does best with remakes. Fuck them up royally. All they think about is the money. The true talent came long ago and it's this talent and genius that laid the movie foundations to stand the test of time.

Wow, when I saw the Picture my first thougt was: a late april fool?
And then:
Oh, Vash the Stampede, from the Anime-Series 'Trigun'.
most of the Cloths, near the original.
when i see correct: Arm changing into a gun... Vash too... the left arm
Robo runs on batterys, Vash is a running powerplant.
Thats a movie that needs a new name, not 'Robocop'. Maybe 'Trigun meets Seven of Nine RL'? ;P
MFG
