The series, as far as I know, was never officially released in Region 1, atleast not completely. I own the Region 2 UK set that came out about 10 years ago and as long as you can get yourself a region-free player, it's a great option. However, it's been getting quite pricey lately.

Most dvd players allow you to input a code via the remote which makes the player "region free"
