I've always looked towards the Archive as the absolute pinnacle of excellence in the RoboCommunity,To this day this is still the #1 for all things Robo..We've entered a time were certain fans have migrated to facebook pages I myself stand guilty of not utilizing this great forum to the extent I used to..Today I'm changing that..We need as fans and members of this great community to revitalize our site.Take the time to focus our posts here instead of FB..I don't feel that community spirit that has been here for over 20 yrs. now over there on the facebook groups..Between trolls, johnny come lately experts, and weird Robofetish jazz I just think that as fans we have a better forum here then "insert whatever"Facebook pages..So this is my promise to the R.A. community I'm back online back on duty here on the Archive..Spread the word lets get folks back engaged here on the R.A..Bring our fandom back to the level it belongs and out of the RoboandLewis banging each other gutter..We've been too quiet for too long..VegasRobo out..

I agree with you. While FB is easier, plain and simple, I do miss the feeling of seeing new posts all across the board. But I still check in pretty much daily, it's not a complete ghost town just yet Smile

Yeah, i feel guilty about neglecting this place also.

I see facebook and Instagram as having completely different audiences from the forum. Different Robo fans entirely.
I've willing to bet 90% of those almost 8000 people that have liked the Archive facebook page don't have any interest in any deep Robo discussions. They just want to post that cool Robo quote.

I post stuff on there that people have no idea about that we here on the archive talked about 10 years ago. It's interesting but mostly just frustrating when people bring up this old stuff that suddenly is news or rare.

That said, the forum has always had these down periods between news and movies. The board got revitalized during the remake, but slowed down again in the years that followed. When the Robo Returns talk pick up i'm hoping people find their way back.

I'm with Archive mainly.. for the most part its just RA being in a lean spell as we have been through before.. though I grant this one seems a bit more pronounced what with supposed 'activity' elsewhere. But as noted that activity is questionable and at the risk of sounding elitist, will never be quite on the level of this place. Anyway, as more Robo news and whatnot busts out we'll get more activity, maybe not a massive lot but some more and it will be from those serious about the character not just those looking for the cool pics, memes, and quotes. Always been quality over quantity here and I see no reason for that to change, of course that means taking the good with the bad which in this case means this joint getting quiet every so often.

That said, eh I also feel a tad guilty about not putting more into this joint as of late either. I still check every day and always will but yeah awful dead around here these days. And yeah it's because I too fool around elsewhere when I have time to fool around, just about none of us are immune to it. That and of course we all get older, life happens - and as I've found free time gets harder to come by along with.

Even then though of course we can pump this place up a little bit more at least. Vegas you're already doing your vids and Archive does promote sections/pages of the site so we just stick with that and build from that. On my end not much I can offer except to say there may still be the odd topic or two we either haven't gone completely over and could go back too seeing if any of our views have changed any, etc to stimulate stuff here a tad. For example I might revise - perhaps slightly, but still - my whole take on Corporate Wars being the end-all-be-all Robo sequel after having read the rough draft script (if anything I oughta read through it again). Eh just a thought.

As for that certain subset of Robo fans well we're better off avoiding them entirely that said I'm not sure how to counter any of the negativity and issues that stem from said subset except to just keep doing what we've been doing and show love for the character and that that's what we're here for, no BS, no jive, no crazy crap (mostly tongue ).. Yes there's perhaps more effort to be done, but mostly just keep promoting this place where we can, reaching out to people etc - Just show simply and plainly we have been here for 20 plus years and still have a dedicated site and community here. Old-school perhaps but hey it works and we have gone and been through much over the history of Robo. The effort may not produce much but it doesn't need to - again it will show for those that are legitimately curious and keep us true to our roots as the more 'hardcore' bunch while the 'casuals' and 'wackos' continue to fool around strictly on social media. One day at a time and all that.

I too have neglected this place. Aside from me not owning a computer(I was way more active online in that capacity), I’ve had so much bad shit going on in my life, that I’ve turned away from the social or fandom aspects of the internet and social media. I have a FB and twitter, but I don’t really use them for anything.

I love the archive and the core group of people that post here. I see glimpses of Robo fandom elsewhere, but this place just brings out the best.

Forums could be "old fashioned", but I really dig going into there. The Robo-related groups in Facebook could be a pain in the ass. Same posts over and over again. When the KFC ads came out, tons of people posted the same videos again and again in the same spots. Itīs neat to go to a related topic here and chat about it. More practical and less messy.

The facebook group thing is problematic for sure. Topics just disappear far down the page and i doubt anyone scrolls down further than 5 or so post to have a look.

Everyone posted the KFC thing and thought they were the first. Even now a week later some dude posted it with no thought that it might have been posted before.

I know. Social media is more popular, sure, but as I said, this still works fine. Also, itīs more like a "club" than Facebook or whatever. I can spend a lot of time on those platforms, but most of the time is chatting with friends than anything. Itīs ok if you wanna see some news, but itīs cool to have a site like this where everything is "filtered" and easy to navigate/find.

Laughing

Being fair he's probably around like some of us, just not posting 'cause, well not much to post about. The first of bit of Robo news we've had was just now and for months prior, well nothing. Which doesn't help matters about trying to do a solid in the fandom and all that. This before we get into having personal stuff going on, which happens.

That said, damn if I didn't literally LOL at this nonetheless though.

I'm just as guilty as anyone else...since back in spring, I've discovered the toy collector's groups on Facebook, and that's kinda consumed alot of my time. I've still checked-in here from time to time, just lurking really, but it's still these message boards that I feel is where the true content and interaction is...it just seems a little more in-depth and engaging. You have to pay more attention and read a little more here. (lol) Maybe I'm just old-fashioned, but I still feel like the boards here are where I come for official content and discussions. Sorry if that sounded like a cheesy commercial, Archive... (lol)

I was a late internet bloomer, as I just didnt have acess to computers or internet when I moved out of my home in the summer of 90'
It wasn't till around 96' that I got this cheap lil HP computer to learn art programs with that I inserted that AOL Disc and logged on for the first time. when I was finally on, I sat back and asked myself, what do I want to see?.. I typed In Robocop, and the forums popped up right on top. It was the weirdest most amazing feeling to see a whole forum of fans of Robocop. .. The Robcop Archive was the inspiration for making my second ever flash clip, and I remembered sending it to Archive as an appreciation for creating such a cool place.... I may not be around as much, but this place is definitely my first true Internet home.

The Robo hype has effectively stopped with Blomkamp jumping ship, so we may be in for another dry Robo season here at the archive.

Good times! Smile
My first Robo site was "RoboCop Central" which was another experience altogether. Still cool to see Robo out there in a larger world though.

Regardless of the activity, whether its high or low, I am glad that this site is here for all the fans who recognize and appreciate what it means to be a true fan of something. Whatever your interests may be, and in the case of this group, there are many ranging from comics to movies to philosophical discussions about the big ideas that arise in great films (my favorites). I think that you can tell when something means something to people, and despite the spans of time between the most frequent interactions, I think that we know that everyone who participates has something in common.
I was late to become part of this forum and I have spent the last few years catching up on many of the discussions and opinions that took place before I joined, but it has been worth it. I am glad to have regular discourse with people who share my interests and I realize that it's not something that you can find just anywhere.
Thanks for all the effort put into making this site informative and for encouraging folks to express their interests freely.
